Laura “Loraine” Hughes Stoddard passed away the morning of Oct. 11, 2023 in her home surrounded by family. She is now reunited with her eternal companion Lynn F. Stoddard.
Loraine was born in Farmington, UT, on April 22,1930, on the kitchen table, to Irvine Eugene and Sylva Sophia Hughes. As an only child, she often felt lonely so decided at a young age that she wanted a dozen children of her own. Loraine attended Davis High and graduated as the valedictorian. Lynn fell in love with a picture of Loraine that her cousin carried when he served in World War II. They started their courtship as pen pals and were later married in the Logan Temple on Dec. 29, 1947. Loraine’s childhood dream of having a large family was fulfilled, as through the years they welcomed 12 children. Lynn and Loraine celebrated 72 wonderful years together before passing.
Loraine was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Out of her many callings in the church her favorite was playing the piano in primary. She exemplified the Christlike attributes of faith, humility, service, gratitude, selflessness and love…
To Loraine her family was everything but to her family she was everything. Her amazing hugs were treasured by all. She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her parents Irvine and Sylva and a son-in-law Charles Clark. She is survived by Her Children: Laralynn (Charles Clark), David (Cathy Lengeling), Jon, Colleen (Scott Karren), Mary Anne (Edward Erickson), Sylva Jean (Steve Wilson), Geraldine (Reed Mackay), Sheila (Glen Shipley), Douglas (Karen), Curtis (Jamie), Pamela (Kevin Price), Karen (John Mumm), 50 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren with more to come.
