Lawrence Berdell Bangerter returned home to his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ on June 28, 2023. Born October 9, 1944, in Bell, Los Angeles, California to Neslin and Geraldine Blair Bangerter, he was the oldest of ten children.
He served a mission to Sidney, Australia, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints during the 1960’s and came home with an array of Australian colloquialisms. He married Linda Barnhurst and together they had five children. He later married Charlet Hoag.
He also served in the Army Reserves and was very patriotic.
Larry worked in the Genealogical and Temple Departments of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints including the church microfilm vaults. He was a devout member of the church and held many positions over the years. He received an associate degree and was certified in genealogical research. He had his own company called Epoch Research Agency and had a passion for many aspects of genealogical work throughout his life including searching his own deceased ancestors. He was also a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and Sons of the American Revolution.
He had a very strong connection with the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle, Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow, Silver Beaver, and many other awards. He also served as a council committee member of the Great Salt Lake Council. Through scouting, he developed a great love for the Indian culture and learned how to perform the Lord’s Prayer in Indian sign language in full celebratory costume. He had some unique artistic abilities including painting and Indian bead work. And he was fascinated with anything having to do with the NASA Space Program.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Charlet and is survived by his children, Devon Bangerter, Terry Bangerter, Veena Waddoups (David), Troy Bangerter (Lisa), and Dana Bangerter (Ruthie). He leaves behind six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, four brothers and five sisters along with many nieces and nephews.
We will miss his sweet, quiet, optimistic manner; big, enthusiastic hugs and infectious laugh.
