Lawrence Larry Eckman

Lawrence Larry Eckman passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on March 10, 1935 in Murray, Utah, to Lawrence F. and Ivy Nelson Eckman. 

Larry grew up in Bountiful, graduated from Davis High School and attended the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics and an MBA. He worked his way through college managing peach orchards on the Bountiful bench. He enjoyed growing and sharing peaches throughout his life.

He married Anne Marie Miller in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. They raised their three children in Bountiful, Utah, and moved to Salt Lake County during their retirement years.

Larry worked for many years in the defense industry as a project manager. He operated an income tax business out of his home for decades and especially enjoyed interacting with his clients. He invested in real estate and managed the family properties.

He was a service missionary for 5 years in the Inner City Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His missionary experience was one of the highlights of his life. He loved helping the people in downtown Salt Lake City.

Larry was an avid fisherman and was happiest catching rainbow trout on Strawberry and other local reservoirs. He treasured his many fishing buddies and loved to fillet the fish in a special way for family and friends. Beginning in 1963, Larry started a beloved family tradition of yearly boating, skiing and camping trips to Lake Powell.

Larry was an avid Ute fan and rarely missed a game. 

He is survived by his wife Anne, his daughter Karen Nickolaisen (Niel), two sons - Robert (Steve) and Paul, and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023 the the LDS Valley View 12th Ward, 2125 East Evergreen Ave., SLC, Utah, where a viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Syracuse City Cemetery, 1250 South 1000 West, Syracuse. Utah.
