Leah Howard Peterson Tibbitts, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, October 7, 2008, in North Salt Lake, Utah. Leah was born on October 5, 1915, in Woods Cross, Utah to Amasa Ray Howard and Robenia Ellis. She was the second of eleven children and developed an early work ethic helping care for her brothers and sisters. She married her eternal companion, and knight in shining armor, Neils Archie Peterson, in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on December 6, 1933. They spent 34 years together building their home, raising their four children, farming, riding horses and enjoying their extended family. Arch passed away January 5, 1968 at the age of 57. Leah married Orrin G. Tibbitts February 7, 1987. They enjoyed traveling and temple work. Orrin passed away March 28, 2003 in Bountiful, Utah. Leah was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many calling on the stake and ward level, especially the young women’s organization. She worked in the Salt Lake Temple for 28 years and enjoyed her association with her many temple friends. Leah was an amazing woman and could do anything. She was an outstanding softball pitcher for the Utah Shamrocks and continued her love of the sport well into her 60’s. Leah was a kind and gentle soul with a smile and special word for everyone. She truly was a special lady. She is survived by her children: Larry, Val Judy, Joy, Marva Ray Yamauchi, her sister LaRae Dillingham Delbert, her brother-in-laws Elmo R. Christensen and Earl Stanbridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers: Max, Glen, Rulon, Duaine, her sisters Orlean Clarkson, Beth Page, Helen Christensen, Reva Howard, Peggy Stanbridge. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Monday October 13, 2008 at the Orchard First Ward Chapel, 3707 South 800 West, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Monday morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery. The family appreciates the kindness and consideration of South Davis Hospice, especially Sherrie and Karen for the tender and loving care of their mother.
