LeAnne Smith West, 74, of Bountiful, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on Nov. 11, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. Her loving husband of nearly 55 years was by her side. LeAnne was born July 30, 1942, in American Fork, to Milton C. and Marval Newman Smith. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High and married her high school sweetheart, M. Ben West, in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 16, 1962.
To know LeAnne was to know pure love. She had an amazing ability to love unconditionally. Everyone felt like they were her favorite. And they probably were, because she had many favorites. She was always quick to serve and provide comfort to others.
LeAnne grew up in Orem in a loving family and together with Ben raised a close family of four sons and one daughter. She has 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. An active member of the LDS Church, LeAnne served in numerous ward and stake callings, but her favorite was in the Primary. She most recently served in the Barton Creek assisted living branch. LeAnne was able to spend many years doing what she most loved, being a full-time mom. She later worked in the billing office at Lakeview Hospital.
LeAnne was genuine in every way and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved reading, puzzles, butterflies, watching Jazz games and occasionally yelling at the players, crocheting, spoiling her grandkids, Diet Coke, the theater, and cooking for her family. She cooked Thanksgiving dinners for more than 45 years. Holidays will never be the same without her.
LeAnne is survived by husband, Ben; brothers Scott (Marsha) Smith, Magna, and Kelly (Barbara) Smith, Green River, Wyo.; children Brian (Camille) West, Centerville; Chris (Donna) West, Draper; Adam (Mary Ann) West, Kaysville; Suzanne (Matt) Johnson, West Bountiful; Bradley (Jennifer) West, Farmington. She had 16 adoring grandchildren: Danielle, Trevor, Jocelyn, Madison, Jake, BreAnna, Collette, Weston, Kira, Logan, Tyler, Calicia, Peyton, Hayden, Savannah and Sydney; two great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Duane Smith, sister Patricia Smith and daughter-in-law Stephanie West.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Bountiful East Stake Center, 600 E. 2150 South. Viewing 10:45-11:45 a.m. before funeral and Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the kind and thoughtful nurses, doctors and social workers at Huntsman Cancer Hospital, as well as those at University and Lakeview hospitals for caring for her and us the last few months.
