Lee Paul Hagen, 89, died peacefully at home on August 15, 2015. He was born January 4, 1926, to Alfred Dale Hagen and Vera Marie Gilchrist Hagen in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
He was raised by his maternal grandmother, Bertha Werner Gilchrist. Their family moved to Chehalis, WA in the spring of 1940. He attended Adna High School pitching on the baseball team. He also developed a love for photography that stayed with him through his life. He lived out of town on a farm and the last half of his senior year, being 18, he drove the school bus.
Following graduation from Adna High School in 1944, Lee served in the United States Navy Air Corps.
Lee had meet Audrey during high school and after being stationed back in Bremerton, WA they started dating more seriously.
After discharge from the service in June 1946, he entered University of Washington to study chemical engineering. During this time, he studied the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized on January 5 1947, a day after his 21st birthday. He was baptized by his to be brother-in-law, Glenn Terry.
Lee and Audrey were married June 19, 1947. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, in August of 1948.
Just before graduation, Lee started work at I. P. Callison and Sons. He also taught Physics at Centralia Junior College during this time.
Lee and Audrey bought their first home in Chehalis. They had 3 daughters while in Washington.
They moved to Bountiful, UT, in 1957. Lee started working for Utah Oil Refining Company–later bought out by Amoco. He worked there until his retirement in 1989.
While there, he earned a Master’s Degree in Science from university of Utah.
In 1989, Lee and Audrey went on a mission to the Massachusetts Boston Mission.
Lee served faithfully in many callings in the LDS church. He received a Silver Beaver for his years of service in scouting.
He loved God, family especially his wife and country. Above all, he served and loved his wife. He so often told his children how much he loved their mother. They celebrated 68 years of loving marriage.
He and Audrey loved traveling. Yearly vacations with their family in early years were great fun. Later Lee and Audrey with friends and family traveled many places across the globe.
Lee is survived by his beloved wife Audrey; his children Terry (David Mann,) Jean Hagen, Susan Labrum, Brent(Janet Hagen); grandchildren Jonathan (Crystal) Mann, Jennifer (Andy) Bentley, Spencer (Cynthia) Mann, Chris (Audrey) Mann, Jessica (Miles) Gillette, Josh (Kayla) Hagen, Nathan Labrum, Brian Labrum, Jackson Hagen, Jarren Hagen, Jayden Hagen and Journey Hagen. Great grandchildren, Atticus, Scarlet, Veronica, Bryson, Aiden, Addison, Kaitlyn, David, Charlie, Molly, Amelia, Daphne, Calvin, Tenzing, and Adeline.
The funeral service will be held at the LDS Chapel at 1540 North 400 East, Bountiful, at 11:00 am on Monday, August 25, where a viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to services.
