Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, LeGrande Allen, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by many of his loving family on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in Bountiful, Utah. LeGrande was born in Richfield, Utah on August 14, 1929 to Luris and Dena Allen. He is the oldest of eight children.
LeGrande had a deep and abiding testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, a love for the Book of Mormon, and of the Prophet Joseph. He served a mission to The Netherlands, the land of his mother. He loved the Dutch language, learned it quickly, and retained it throughout his life, teaching words and phrases to his family. He was forever faithful in his commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. He attended Snow College prior to his mission, and Utah State following, where he met and fell in love with a beautiful little brunette named Marva G. Stevens.
LeGrande married Marva on March 20, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of eight children. He loved life! He loved the great outdoors and passed that love onto his family. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time at the family cabin at Strawberry. He loved every season, but especially fall, traipsing through the woods with family members. He loved Kingston, Gunnison, Richfield, Boulder Mountain, and spending time with his beloved cousins and uncles in Southern Utah. He loved fishing trips to Alaska and Mexico with family. He had a firm handshake and a radiant smile. He was eternally cheerful and optimistic in spite of the trials he was called upon to endure. Not only was he known for his positive outlook, but his gentle, Christlike demeanor.
LeGrande was a master teacher who loved his students. In later years family members would hear, “Mr. Allen was my favorite teacher!” Because of his battle with MS, LeGrande had to leave his chosen profession, but that did not diminish his love of teaching. He concluded his professional life at Hill Air Force Base.
LeGrande is survived by eight children: Maylene (Mark) Millburn, Rebecca (Clark) Allred, Kayla (Lorin) MacKay, Daniel (Cheryl) Allen, Scott (Tiffiny) Allen, Marcia (Scott) Stanford, Rozanne (Eric) Oldroyd, and Jennavee (Mathew) Anderson. LeGrande and Marva have 41 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
LeGrande loved his brothers and sisters: Carol Gene, Shirley, Dianne, Wayne, Elaine, Toni, and Dave and their families. He was a faithful son who always honored his parents. He was a devoted husband and father who taught his family more by his example than his words. He was a gentle, humble man who never wavered in his convictions. He is preceded in death by his sweetheart, Marva, who passed away November 27, 2011, his grandson Joel Allred, and his sister, Carol Gene Allen Chapman.
The family would like to thank Life Care Center, and Brighton Hospice for their loving and respectful care of their father.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 8th at 1:00 pm at Bountiful 37th ward chapel, 1540 North 400 East, Bountiful, Utah. Viewing will be at 11:00 am – 12:30 pm prior to the funeral services.
