Leila Manser

September 22, 1931 — March 2, 2015

Leila Manser passed away Monday March 2nd, 2015 in Bountiful Utah.  Born in her grandmother’s home, she is the daughter of loving parents.  She married her husband Tony in the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple.  Raised by a loving and nurturing family and extended family in the post-depression era, Leila learned to work hard on the family farm.

She was valedictorian of her high school class, and recognized as most likely to succeed in dietetics by her college class.  Leila was very involved as a university student participating in several clubs, the year book staff, and the symphony orchestra.  She was awarded a BA degree in Medical Dietetics from Brigham Young University.  After a 12 month internship at Harper General Hospital in Detroit, Leila accepted a position with the staff of the Calgary General Hospital.   She was quickly promoted to Senior Therapeutic Dietitian.

Leila loved helping people.  She used her vacation leave one summer to volunteer at a summer camp for diabetic children.  After marrying her eternal companion, Leila decided to set aside her professional career to devote her time and talents to nurturing and raising her children.  As her children got older, she retooled her professional skills and worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses and retired from Peterson Development.

Leila is a very spiritually minded, talented and responsible person.  She sought out many opportunities to serve in the community and also served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Leila helped collect money for the Heart Drive, Cancer Society, Primary Children’s Hospital and other charities, tutored school children in reading, and sewed many clothes and quilts for the Humanitarian Center.  Her church service included teaching and leadership in the Primary, Young Womens, Relief Society, and Family History; service in a Nursing Home, and the Bountiful Utah Temple open house.  Leila loved music and enjoyed performing with her violin, and singing in church choirs.  She loved to hear her grandchildren perform on various musical instruments.  With her husband, Tony, she served an 18 month leadership and proselyting mission to Manchester, England.  Together they were instrumental in revitalizing and preparing the Preston Ward for a new LDS temple.  She also served as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Utah LDS Temple for three years.

Leila is survived by her 5 children; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 2 sister-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 1 brother.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 7, 2015 at the Centerville 3rd Ward Chapel, 900 South 400 East, Centerville.  Friends may call Friday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Saturday from 12:00 – 12:40 P.M. at the church prior to services.  Interment will be in the Centerville City Cemetery.
