Abram Leland Erickson, Passed away March 13th 2015 at his daughter's home in Bountiful. He was born Sunday, January 25, 1925 in his home at 46 East 8th South in Salt Lake City. He was the 4th child of Erick Edwin and Millie Workman Erickson. He grew up in the 3rd ward, Liberty Stake. At age 4, he started Kindergarten at Jefferson School. He attended Lincoln Junior High and graduated from South High in June 1941. He served 3 years in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart when he was wounded in Germany. After the war he served in the Western States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from June 1946 to August 1948. His mission president was Francis A. Child. He served as the Mission Secretary for a year and was then called as a counselor in the Mission Presidency for a year. After his mission, he attended the U of U where he graduated in June 1950.
After graduating he found a lovely girl, Thelma Carter of Orem. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 16, 1950 and had the privilege of having 5 wonderful children, Richard, Dean, Linda, Keith and Dennis. They were blessed with 25 grandchildren and 27 great ones with 3 more he’ll send down soon. He was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. Some of his most memorable were: Bishop’s Counselor, Assistant Stake Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, High Priest Group Leader and Home Teacher. Leland and Thelma also had the great privilege of serving two missions. They served in Ruston, Louisiana in 1989 and Martin’s Cove in Wyoming during the summer of 2001.
Leland was a staunch promoter of Credit Unions and was the founder of South Davis Credit Union, which later merged with the Deseret First Credit Union. He served as a director in 3 different credit unions and as a chapter officer in two chapters.
Leland is survived by: his children Dean (Jan) Erickson, Linda (Richard) Tolman, Keith (Heidi) Erickson, Dennis (Lori) Erickson, grandkids, brothers Delmon Erickson and Elden (Joyce) Erickson. He is preceded in death by: his wife Thelma (Carter) Erickson, son Richard and his wife Lori Erickson, brother Edwin Erickson and sister Julia Streadbeck.
A viewing will be held on Friday March 20, from 6:00pm-8:00pm, at Russon Brothers Mortuary (295 N Main Bountiful) and March 21st at 9:45am-10:45 am before the funeral which will be held at 11:00 am in the Val Verda Stake Center, 500 West 2600 South in Bountiful. Burial will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers you can make a contribution to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
