Leone Duncan Stringam died December 15, 2014, at the age of 97 at her home in Centerville, Utah. She was born August 31, 1917, in Centerville to George Walter and Florence Hardy Duncan.
In her youth she loved working in the family fruit orchards, reading and writing, and often dreamed of being a secretary or office worker. Her dreams came true throughout her auspicious career as a secretary and administrator that spanned 37 years. She was a valued and highly recognized and respected employee at Bountiful State Bank, the Selective Service, Public Housing Administration, Division of Disbursement for the U.S. Treasury, Veterans Administration, and Federal Aviation Administration.
Leone was a dedicated and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a secretary in many church auxiliaries for nearly 50 years. She also taught Primary and Sunday School and was humbled to be called as a Relief Society teacher for the first time when she was in her 90s. Her solid faith and testimony was a source of peace and hope to many. She was quick to recognize the Lords will and personal tender care by testifying there is no such thing as a coincidence.
Leone said February 24, 1981, was the best day of her life. It was the day she married George Owen Stringam in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they enjoyed serving in the temple for more than 20 years, traveled the world, and loved studying the gospel and spending time with their family. They admired and respected each other immensely, and according to her, lived happily ever after. Owen died in 2007.
Leone is survived by Owens children: Bryan, Gary, Morgan, and Maureen; their children and grandchildren; and her loving nieces and nephews and their posterity. She will be missed by many children of all ages who considered her one of their favorite friends, mentors, and even as an adopted grandma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen, her parents, and her siblings: Leroy, Therice, Hattie, and Frank.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, in the Centerville Utah South Stake Center, 270 North 300 East. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Centerville cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Church Temple Patron Assistance Fund. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
