Sunday morning, February 2, 2014 our sweet mother and grandmother, Leora Wells Reed joined her eternal companion, Donal J Reed to celebrate their 69th Wedding Anniversary on February 4th.
Leora was born on May 12, 1925 in Springfield, Idaho to Eva Hodges Wells and Hugh Nelson Wells, fifteen minutes after her twin Theora, who arrived on May 11th. They have always had a close and unique eternal bond. She was blessed to have four other wonderful siblings: Dallas, Norman, Nelma and Cecil.
Her gentle parents instilled in their children a love of nature, their fellowmen and of God. They taught by example the virtues of hard work, thrift, honesty, and loyalty to family and friends. She was also influenced for good by her sweet step-mother Arvilla Brown Wells.
She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1943. While attending the University of Idaho Southern Branch in Pocatello she met the love of her life Don. He was training to be a naval officer and she was a young co-ed. After dating for almost a year they were married at her parent’s home in Blackfoot, Idaho on February 4, 1945. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 21, 1946.
The newlyweds spent four precious months together in San Diego, California before he shipped out to the Pacific. At the end of the war they resumed their life together in Caldwell, Idaho.
In 1955 they moved their young family of 4 children Rick, Rex, Sherri, and Randall (Randy) to Berkley, California. While in Berkeley the family was completed with the arrival of Ronald (Ron). After graduating with a PhD. in Physiology, the family moved to Bountiful, a place they both loved. Don taught at the University of Utah Medical School until he took an early retirement in 1988 to serve a 2-year mission in Zimbabwe, Africa. They loved serving the African people.
Leora adored her grandchildren and they have many wonderful memories of time spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Leora and Don spent their retirement years guiding, teaching, loving and serving their growing family and increasing their love for each other and the Savior. They loved serving as temple workers in the Bountiful Temple. They also enjoyed traveling, and spending time with dear neighbors and friends.
Leora taught the pure love of Christ by her loving daily example. She truly loved her fellowmen and treated all with kindness and respect. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cruz Rueda for her two years of loving service and to the amazing staff at Legacy House of Logan for their loving care of mom.
