With a heavy heart we share the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, and friend to many. LeR (as he always said “I am the only one in captivity” with that name) was born in Gunnison, Utah, on July 1, 1933, to Mina Archie Beauregard and Mary Effie Robinson Beauregard. His character was shaped by growing up in humble circumstances through the Depression and World War II. His father taught him the value of hard work. LeR said the Boy Scouts inspired him to set goals and accomplish them. He was proud of obtaining his Eagle Scout award. He graduated from Granite High School in 1952 and obtained his journeyman plumbing license. LeR attended the University of Utah graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He participated in ROTC and was a second lieutenant in the Air Force.
LeR fell in love with his one and only love, Nancy, and they were married on September 1, 1954. LeR seldom bought flowers for Nancy but he would always grow a garden of beautiful flowers for her. One of dad’s greatest accomplishments was the building of his family. He encouraged his children to work with him and instilled a strong work ethic but most importantly to find joy and fulfillment in working hard. LeR and Nancy built a family legacy to be admired!
At a young age LeR loved building. LeR dug out the basement for his own private bedroom when he was 12. During his teenage years he built a canoe and a store in front of his boyhood home. LeR built a home for his mother, 2 homes for his family, and a duplex. Later he helped build 3 homes alongside his children. Bo built 5 campers, 2 houseboats (Bozark and Bozark II) at Lake Powell, a fishing houseboat (‘Lil Ark), and a cabin at Soldier Creek!
Professionally, Bo worked at American Oil and quickly became the youngest person in management. His next move was to Sawyer Construction and then Interwest Construction where Bo became President. Bo oversaw the construction of many high rises, condominiums, large industrial buildings, retail businesses, and even churches. Bo was very innovative in designing a natural gas turbine system and using slip/lift and tilt slab methods of construction. He obtained a patent for a combination arrowhead removing and muzzle-loading tool. Throughout Bo’s life you would always find him working on a personal project. He was a handyman and enjoyed helping relatives, friends, and neighbors. The neighbors knew if they needed something, they could find it at “Bo-Depot.”
Bo was known as a man with 9 lives! From surviving a refinery explosion and fire that killed 3, breaking his back while cliff diving in Lake Powell, breaking his back again while snowmobiling, to having a heart attack atop a tree he was preparing to fell, Bo lived life to the fullest!
Bo enjoyed taking his family and friends camping and fishing. He was an avid hunter of deer, elk, moose, antelope, and rabbits. Whether hunting with a bow and arrow, rifle, or muzzle loader rifle and shotgun, there was always an adventure to be remembered. Bo drove on many of the dirt roads throughout Utah and would say when in an unknown area you were “Scovering”. Bo and Nancy travelled the world during their 62 ½ years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and especially liked cruises to Caribbean, Indonesia, Hawaii, Scandinavia, Canada, New England, and the Panama Canal and often commented how much they enjoyed swimming through the Canal.
One goal Bo didn’t achieve was to live to 90. At age 87 after a fall in his home on November 30, he had a stroke attributed to heart failure on December 15. His family was able to gather around his bedside to express their love.
As we say so long for now Dad, we want to say Thank You! Thank you for teaching us the value and love of working hard. Thank you for showing us how to accomplish our dreams. Thank you for building our homes. Thank you for building the houseboats and our cabin that continues to keep our family together. We cherish the memories we made together. Thank you for building our family with strong ties that bind us forever. Most of all Dad thank you for your love!
LeR is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Kay Tregeagle Beauregard, parents and sisters, Echo Ney and Bonnie Westphal. Because dad did not believe in an afterlife, we know he was surprised to see mom and his loved ones when he passed away. He is survived by his six children: Kay (Larry) Gerber, Gail, Roxann, Shari (Patrick) Green, Kim (Daryl) Bell, Alan (Teresa) Beauregard. Bo also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Bo considered his entire family Great!
