LeRoy J Broderick

August 29, 1943 — January 18, 2024

LeRoy J Broderick our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully in his home on January 18, 2024, surrounded by family, at 80 years of age. LeRoy was born on August 29, 1943, to Ronald and Lorna Broderick in Price, Utah. He was the oldest of six children. As a young child he lived in Emery County until the age of 12 when they moved to Bountiful.

After graduating from Bountiful High School, he enlisted in the National Guard and graduated from Officer Candidate School. He also served an honorable mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Upon returning he met his eternal companion, Sharilyn Thompson. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 10, 1967.

LeRoy graduated from Weber State College with a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering. He got a job and they moved to Minnesota where they were blessed with their first born child, David. Two years later, they moved back to Utah where he continued to work for Unisys for his entire career of 32 years.

They were blessed with 4 more children Mike, Matt, Julie and Kristy, before building their forever home in West Bountiful, Utah, where they were blessed with their last child, Steven.

Dad faithfully served in many callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop. With his wife, he served four and a half years at the Global Service Center Mission in Salt Lake City. Three of those years were serving as the Director of the mission.

His loves in life were making memories and spending time with family. Favorite outdoor family activities included hunting, fishing, camping and birdwatching. He also had a strong love for gardening; especially growing heirloom tomatoes. He had a strong passion for serving the people around him in his ward and neighborhood. He would drop anything he was doing to help anyone.

His family was his pride and joy, especially his 11 grandchildren that he adored. His main concern before his passing was knowing that mom would be taken care of. He loved and cared for her to the very end.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Lorna Broderick, and his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Thompson. Also proceeded in death by his sister JeNan Page and her husband Jim, his sister-in-law Cleo Thompson, and his brother-in-law Ron Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharilyn, his children David, Michael (Gretchen), Matthew, Julie (Russ Davis), Kristy (Vance Sandgren), and Steven. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Rachel, Gavin, Mason, Jonah, Isaac, Emma, Zoey, Porter, Maddie, Ollie and Hudson. His siblings Dan (Vicki), Kevin (Laurie), Kae (John Garrick), and Trish. His brother-in-law Robert Thompson (Mary Lynn), Craig Thompson (Sheri) and his sister-in-law Ann Thomson, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thanks to many friends, family and caregivers who helped LeRoy throughout the final days of his life.
