LeRoy Ostler

Biography

LeRoy Roth Ostler, age 87, passed away November 23, 2013 in Bountiful, Utah. Born December 23, 1925 in Nephi, Utah to LeRoy Roth and Louise Herberdina Roth Ostler. Roy’s mother passed away when he was two years old; his little sister 14 months later. He was blessed with a second mother, Anna Grace Ostler, who loved him as her own. Married Mary Patrick, November 18, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised five children. After Mary’s death Roy married Eileen Hess, September 25, 2004 in the Bountiful LDS Temple. Roy grew up on a farm in Nephi where he developed his incredible work ethic, “The best way to kill time, is to work to death!” Roy served in the US Navy during WWII. He served an honorable mission to the Netherlands, the birthplace of his mother. He was a skilled carpenter, and loved helping those around him. He loved making special gifts for his family and friends. Roy was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Bishop, Stake President, and was a devoted Home Teacher. Roy served a number of service missions for the LDS Church, including a Farm Management mission with Mary in England, and one with Eileen at Deseret Manufacturing.
Survived by his children: Mary Lou Little (Chick), Alan (Lulu), Ned (Janet), Grant (Terri), Rob (Karen). He is Opa to 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; siblings: David (Sharon), Grace Merkley (Glade), Morris (Barbara), Karen Hemenway (Arvil), Paul (Anita), Steve (Ruth), Kathi Ware. Preceded in death by his wives, Mary and Eileen, parents, little sister Betty Lou, and brother John.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Val Verda 2nd Ward, 3317 South 800 West, Bountiful, Utah. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Tuesday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the LDS Missionary Fund.
