Lester Dean Earnshaw, age 87, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away July 3, 2022, peacefully at home with the love of his life, LuJean, at his side. They were married almost 70 years ago on September 17, 1952. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 27, 1960. He was born October 3, 1934, to Mark Lester (Les) Earnshaw and Thelma Belle Hart in Bountiful, Utah. He cherished life and loved his family with all his heart. Everything was about family for ‘Dean.’ Life was always more fulfilling if he was surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He finished his life in the same home his father built. He and LuJean raised their family and cherished their many friends in the Woods Cross and Bountiful communities.
Dean was known for his many talents and hobbies. He loved trains and throughout his life his house and yard were full of trains. He was an avid garden train enthusiast. Friends, family, and hundreds of interested visitors from all over would come to see his beautiful yard and trains. He won the KUTV backyard beautification award which made him proud to broadcast the news from his back yard. His home was filled with puzzles of trains which he enjoyed putting together the past few years. One of his greatest joys was getting the train running for the grandkids.
Dean taught through his example the value and ethics of hard work. He worked for the Bountiful Dairy as a Milkman for over 30 years, delivering milk in Salt Lake and Bountiful. Everyone knew Dean as the ‘Milkman.’ He worked tirelessly to care for his family. After finishing his milk route, he would go to work during the day doing one or two of his many part time jobs. After retiring from being the Milkman, he became a School Bus Driver for the Davis School District. The kids loved Dean the ‘Bus Driver’. He drove the bus for 20 years before retiring from the district.
He was a skilled carpenter. He loved his wood shop and enjoyed making crafts for his family, friends, and Relief Society activities. He was an avid sports fan, playing softball and coaching many baseball teams and was involved with Utah’s little league associations.
He was musically inclined and played the piano by ear. He sang in an award-winning barbershop quartet. As a talented violinist, he played in a community youth orchestra as well as many requested events. He served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and especially loved the scouting program. He loved to take his family camping, snowmobiling and on many trips to Yellowstone. He also served for a few years in the National Guard.
He was the oldest of three siblings, Cheryl Earnshaw Price (Harvey), and Janice Earnshaw Tolman (Ray). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cheryl, and his brother-in-law Ray.
Dean is survived by his wife, LuJean Hill Earnshaw, sister Janice Earnshaw Tolman, brother-in-law Harvey Price, sons Ricky Dean (Susie), Paul Carter (Yuen), Dallas Lane (Kassidy), Mark Kenneth (Peggy), daughter Jody Hutchings (Steve), 13 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.
