Lettie LaRue Pickett Peterson Hugoe, our wonderful mother, grandmother and everyone?s friend peacefully passed from this life on March 17, 2007. LaRue was born July 8, 1913 in Gunnison, Utah to John Earl and LaVern Stevens Pickett. She was the oldest of nine children. She was raised on a farm, milked cows, gathered eggs, tromped hay, thinned beets and drove horses. She was proud to be a farmer?s daughter. She graduated from Gunnison High and attended Snow College where she met her sweetheart Shirley N. Peterson. They were married Feb. 14, 1933 in the Manti LDS Temple. They were the parents of 7 children. They lived in Ephraim, Utah where they owned Shirley?s Ice Cream Parlor. In 1945 they moved to West Bountiful. Shirley passed away in 1957. LaRue married Harold V. Hugoe in 1962 who had two children. He passed away in 1986. LaRue donated a kidney to her son Gerald enabling him to live 31 more years. LaRue loved West Bountiful where she served as Town Clerk for 20 years. She co-authored ?The History of West Bountiful?. She reported the local news for the Davis County Clipper for 10 years. She was the Grand Marshal for West Bountiful?s 4th of July Parade and was also West Bountiful Citizen of the Year in 1999. West Bountiful placed a memorial tree and plaque in front of the City Hall to honor LaRue for her many years of dedicated service to the community. She was active in many civic organizations including: The United Way, The South Davis Chamber of Commerce, The West Bountiful Historical Society and The Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She acted as an election judge and census taker. LaRue was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Primary President, Ward and Stake MIA President, Relief Society President twice, was a Temple worker and filled a mission with Harold to Jackson, Mississippi. When she was 80 years old she was called to serve a Family History mission in San Diego, California. LaRue was a friend to everyone, young and old, from all walks of life. She will be remembered for her cheerful attitude, quilting, crocheting, hot rolls and fresh baked apple pie. She was an ordinary woman who lived an extraordinary life. Children: Arlene Thad Kirkham, Rollo Eileen Peterson, Elsie Brent Anderson, Gerald-deceased Karen Peterson, Steven Lenore Peterson, Marianne Steve Roberts, Sherylee Keith – deceased Gillett, Tony Barbara Hugoe, Loretta Jay Horrocks. 44 grandchildren, 114 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Sisters and brothers: Celia Miles Jensen, Julina Croft-deceased Christensen, Owen Mary Pickett, Beryl Glen Christensen ? both deceased, David Verna Pickett, Edith Ross-deceased Tripp and Newell Nola Pickett. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22nd, 11:00 a.m. at the West Bountiful Stake Center, 1930 North 600 West, West Bountiful. Friends may call Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and from 9:45-10:45 Thursday, prior to the services at the church. Internment in the Bountiful City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests you take a pie to a neighbor or a friend.
