Lewie Hyde Waite passed away peacefully in the arms of his mother and father on July 10, 2013. His life though brief was a cherished blessing to his family. In his short time on earth he taught those he loved of the power of prayer and the comfort that the Gospel of Jesus Christ can instill in one’s life.
Lewie was born Memorial Day, May 27, 2013 to loving parents, Rachel & Mitchell Waite. At 7.5 pounds and 21 inches long, he was beautiful from birth. Despite a heart defect, Lewie was perfect in every way. He was so pure and elect of God that he was called home to fulfill a vital work on the other side. For that reason his mother and father are as proud as any parents could be. Lewie’s middle name was in honor of a special ancestor who was a stalwart pioneer who labored valiantly for the restored gospel. Like his namesake, Lewie will be laboring for the Lord on the other side of the veil.
Lewie was a special and unique little soul. He loved to suck on anything that was put in his mouth. He was inquisitive and curious, and would spend hours staring around his hospital room, studying each face hovering over his bed. Some of the most precious moments our family enjoyed with him were gazing back into his tender eyes.
After six weeks in Primary Children’s Cardiac ICU, Lewie’s parents realized he may not survive his struggle for life. The painful decision to release him from his suffering was almost more than they could bear. But when that moment came, Mitchell & Rachel felt an incomprehensible peace. They know that it was due to the power of the atonement.
Memorial Day will forever be a cherished day for the Mark and Eileen Waite and Dave and Cheryl Toone families. Each feels immense gratitude and joy in having known Lewie and knowing he will forever be in our family. We know Lewie is happy and at peace. Where Lewie now is, we all hope one day to be, for he has been granted a special place in the upper realms of heaven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 East Mueller Park Road. The Lewie H. Waite Memorial Fund has been established at America First Credit Union.
