Our beloved father Lew passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 25, 2016. He was born June 26, 1927 in Vernal, Utah to Arthur G. and Elda Morgan Nord. Lew graduated from Ogden High School in 1945 where he met the love of his life, JoAnn Thayne. They married in the Logan LDS Temple on February 24, 1949. Lew attended Weber State College and in 1952 graduated from the University of Utah in Management and Marketing. He was active in ROTC and retired as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
He began his career in marketing with General Mills and soon after, launched his own firm, Nord Advertising Associates in 1958. He won numerous awards with his marketing efforts. Lew was active with the First Network of Affiliated Advertising Agencies and served as national President. He also taught Advertising courses at BYU Extension Salt Lake. He developed real estate projects in Davis, Weber and Salt Lake counties. Yet, Lew would find time for community service; his acts of generosity and charity behind the scenes were seldom known by others.
Lew was devoted to his fellowman having served three missions for the LDS church. Adelaide, Australia, 1986-87 as public relations specialists and also served in the outback doing humanitarian work. Guam, Micronesia 1989-92 as Mission President. 1993-1995 as Assistant Director of Church Hosting.
Friendship was important to Lew, as attested by his many friends. We all will miss his sense of humor that was legendary. Lew wrote on the bottom of his resume, “The greatest assets in my life are family, a beautiful and lovely devoted wife, JoAnn, and all my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.” Lew’s family was recognized as the Utah Family of the Year in 1980.
Lew will be missed by his children, Rick L. Nord, Susan (Brad) Green, Tina (Chuck) Schwab, Joni (Robert) Walker and Brett (Ann) Nord; 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren who adored their Papa Lew, and brother William Nord, his missionaries and his golf buddies. Preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, his parents, two brothers, one sister and his son, Kevin Nord.
He was a man of faith with a strong abiding testimony in his Savior Jesus Christ that helped sustain him as he endured to the end.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29 at 11:00 am at the Bountiful Hills Ward, 1190 E. Bountiful Hills Drive. Friends and family may visit Thursday evening 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 N Main St, Bountiful and Friday morning 9:30 to 10:30 am at the LDS chapel.
