Lilian Marsden Nielsen, age 58, of Kaysville, Utah passed away peacefully in her home on December 12th, 2024. She was born to Alan and Bea Marsden on November 23rd,1966. Lilian grew up in West Bountiful as the fifth of six children and graduated from Viewmont Highschool in 1985. She married her husband Cory Nielsen and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on December 6th, 1985. Lilian and Cory soon settled in Kaysville Utah where they raised their five boys.
Lilian stayed home with her five sons and raised them to love each other unconditionally. Countless friends and neighbors would also refer to her as ‘Mom’ throughout her life. This is easily credited to her welcoming spirit, actions, and her ability to make everyone feel like they were family. All were welcome in her home.
She also actively participated as a ‘Band Mom’ in the Davis High School band program from 2011-2017. She assisted in chaperoning and attended every competition/event that her children were performing in for many years. She then began to own season tickets to the University of Utah Football Team to continue supporting her son as he participated in the U of U Marching Band. This led to one of her favorite past times for the remainder of her life as she would spend most Saturdays each fall at Rice-Eccles Stadium cheering for the Utes.
Although an enormous Utah fan, anyone that knew Lilian knew that if they ever saw her in Utah, she was likely in the middle of planning her next trip to Disneyland. It was truly her Happiest Place on Earth as multiple trips with children, and without, took place for many years. These trips usually accompanied staying at her favorite vacation spot of San Clemente, California.
Of all the love she gave as a mother, nothing compared to the love she gave as a grandmother. She would be the grandmother to seven grandchildren and proved that she would go the extra mile to make sure that they knew they were loved. These moments ranged from giving them gifts or baking them cookies, to comforting them when they were scared or sick even though her own illness was raging.
She is a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and went above and beyond with her callings in the Primary and Young Women organizations. She also looked forward to serving in the Layton Utah Temple and we know that she continues to serve there from the other side. Lilian has a knowledge of life continuing after death. We mourn her passing but celebrate her life. She lived it to its fullest and made sure that those around her felt loved and included and it concerned her whenever they felt differently. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, comfort, and service for everyone.
We echo the words of the stripling warriors of the Book of Mormon: “We do not doubt, our mother knew it”
She is preceded in death by her parents Alan and Beatrice Marsden, and her brother Archie Marsden. She is survived by her husband Cory, children; Russell (Janelle), Alan (Katelyn), Taylor (Melissa), Jacob (Sadie), Michael (Sara). Grandchildren; Kevin, Tristan, LilyAnn, Rosalee, Melanie, Emmet, Peter.
