"Grandma Honey”
Bountiful, Utah – Florence Lillian Galloway Best, 89, died in the early morning of May 20, 2015, following a stroke. Her spirit is now free from the vicissitudes of mortality, enjoying a long-awaited reunion with her beloved father.
Lillian was born September 18, 1925 in Shelley, Idaho, the eldest daughter of Charles Wesley and Florence Austin Galloway. She grew up in Logan, Utah, graduated from Logan High School in 1943, and attended Utah State and the University of Utah. She married Wayne O. Best in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1946. They later moved to Bountiful, where they raised their children, Christy, John, Mark, Mary Ann, and Kathleen.
Lillian faithfully served her family, church, and community. She had callings in the Sunday School, MIA, Primary, and Relief Society; served in 1981 as Bountiful Handcart Days executive secretary; and was very active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She worked for many years as a secretary at South Davis Medical Center and at J.C. Bangerter Produce, and was very involved in the American Association of Medical Assistants. She loved the color blue, pansies, genealogy, and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; children: Christy, Centerville; John (Joy), Bountiful; Mary (Ross) Decker, St. George; and Kathleen (Rick) Smith, St. George. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Robbie Best, Jared (Sharry) Decker, Anna (Ryan) Waddell, Jacob (Laurie) Decker, Jeff Best, Jamie (Skyler) Scott, Justin (Kelli) Decker, Andy (Kaylee) Best, Katie Whited, Aaron (Danielle) Best, Jennifer (Josh) Kastleman, Adam (Amanda) Best, Joshua Decker, Arick (Dezeray) Best, Abby (Derek) Callor, and Austin Best; and 12 ½ great-grandchildren: Shayden and Landon Scott; Kayla, Kylie, and Kacen Whited; Jeff and Max Kastleman, Charli Decker, Noelle Best, Bruce Best, Liberty Rose Callor, Robyn Best, and baby girl Decker. Also surviving her are brothers Wesley Galloway and Darold (Bonnie) Galloway, brother-in-law Lee Richards, former daughter-in-law Alice Higgins, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Hazel Richards, brother Gerald Galloway, and son Mark.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Bountiful 54th Ward, 540 North 1200 East. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Wednesday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West.
