Linda Mae Foxall Rushton Shirts
Born 11 November 1946, Glasgow, Valley County, Montana
To parents Ned Lamar Rushton, Sr. and Dora Mae Foxall.
After a brief fight with cancer, she passed away suddenly and peacefully on the morning of 20 July 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Don Leavitt Rushton.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Reed Shirts, Sr., a good man of exceeding faith, love, and devotion,
Beloved Step-Mother-In-Law, Elvira “Eve” Wilkinson Shirts,
Siblings: Ned Jr. (Beverly), David (Georgia), Ruth (Don) Andrus, Boyd (Lynette), Lydia (Greg) Scholes, and Lisa (Kelly) Driesel,
Her children: Jed (Camille), Drew (Amy), John (Mindy), Emily (Alan) Stemmons, Don (Kristi), and Jack Jr. (Natalie),
25 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Linda attended Dixie College, living with her dear grandmother, Mabel Leavitt Rushton. She had a bachelor’s degree from BYU and taught at Tintic High School in Eureka before having a family.
Linda served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life, always doing more than asked. She served in choir and music callings, Relief Society presidencies and twice as Primary President.
She had great love for the Savior and for all people, welcoming strangers and neighbors into her home and heart. Even the homeless had a place to stay and a seat at her table.
Her love of music filled the air with her lilting soprano voice and piano playing. She and her siblings sang together often as children and continue to sing together to this day. She enjoyed singing in quartets with her friends over the years and dearly enjoyed teaching piano to several of her grandchildren.
Being a mother and grandmother was her life’s work and her enduring legacy. Diligent in her example of hard work, she taught by loud praise and quiet reproof. She wept when each child moved out. Wept and rejoiced with every missionary called. Wept and rejoiced with every missionary returned. Wept and rejoiced with every marriage. After the last child moved out, she filled the hole in her heart by letting missionaries live in the basement. She rejoiced in every child’s accomplishment and mourned with every setback. She had a pure and forgiving heart.
Linda lived life to the fullest and we will all miss her very much, knowing she is rejoicing with loved ones on the other side.
