1943 Sue 2023

Lloya Sue Pease

April 21, 1943 — August 11, 2023

Bountiful, UT

Our angel wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend has left this world to a higher and holier sphere. Sue, at 80 years young, passed away on August 11, 2023, after a valiant fight with Leukemia.

Born to Francis Lynn and Dixie Jean Barber in Caliente, Nevada, Sue was a natural peacemaker. At the age of five, her father's work took them to Caracas, Venezuela, where they lived for ten years. Sue loved growing up in South America, where she developed the gift of speaking Spanish. Throughout her life, this special gift of language sparked surprising conversations, service opportunities, and even lifelong friendships.

Sue met her high school sweetheart and eternal companion, Delmar, as a sophomore at Granger High. They were married on March 23, 1963, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 28, 1964. Earlier this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Over the years, she and Delmar enjoyed bowling, dancing, and watching BYU and the Utah Jazz. Going to dinner and vacationing with their friends was also a cherished pastime. Above all else, Sue’s greatest love was spending time with the family she and Delmar created. Whether camping, celebrating holidays, attending family reunions, or just going out to eat, if her family was there, Sue was in heaven. To her children, she was a loving confidant, lunch girlfriend, and an attentive listener. To her grandchildren, she became the best cheerleader we’ve ever seen. She loved to watch them dance, cheer, and play sports of every kind. Her playful phone calls to great-grandchildren brought squeals of delight, from both sides of the phone.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sue served in many callings and organizations. She and Delmar loved going to the temple, where their service brought her unique and special experiences. They also served together in the Centerville Humanitarian Service Mission, setting a powerful example of sacrifice and dedication.

As we have reflected back with family and friends, her most consistent and endearing trait was her genuine ability to make each person feel like they were the absolute best, and everything they did was the absolute greatest!

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Dixie Barber; sister, Velma Lynn Barber; and grandson, Connor Clay.  She is survived by her husband, Delmar; six daughters, Cherrie Clay (Tom); Suzette Strahm (Eric); Natalie Parker (Ken); Raquel Rix (Dave); Gina Keene (Paul); Donnalynn MacArthur (Barry); two sons, Donavan Pease, Cory Pease (Noelle); and sister, Leigh Barrus (Gary). As well as twenty-eight loving grandchildren, and twenty-five cherished great-grandchildren.

Our family wishes to give special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital staff, especially Dr. Paul J. Shami and his team of caring providers. Our mom always had a smile and heartfelt love for them, except when they showed up with needles. She often joked that they should just turn around and leave if they had a needle in tow. Through the combined efforts of their exceptional care, countless hours of loving service from Sue’s husband, daughters, and the grace of God, we enjoyed an additional two and a half years with our sweet mother.
