Lloyd Dean Nelson passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 15, 2022. He was born on April 3, 1933 in Fairview, Utah, to Martha Rigby (homemaker) and Laurel Daniel Nelson (rancher). Oldest of 3 children, Lloyd grew up in Manila, Utah.
After his service in the Army during the Korean War, where he had been stationed in Germany, Lloyd married Jean Walk, on September 1, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 51 years before Jean passed away. We are so grateful that Lloyd has now been reunited with the love of his life, Jean. After Jean’s passing in 2006, Lloyd married Thuryle Clyde in 2007. Together, they enjoyed companionship and memories for 10 years before Thuryle passed in 2018.
Lloyd was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and shared his faith and hope in Christ and the Plan of Salvation on a daily basis. He diligently served in many leadership callings in the Church. He always strove to share his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
As a young man, Lloyd helped his father herd sheep on a ranch outside of town. He graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and then served in leadership positions for The Bureau of Reclamation under the Department of Energy and Western Area Power Administration for many decades. He was loved and respected at work and at home.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Jean, both parents, and both siblings, Clela Harris and Carlene Reed. He is survived by 5 children: Duane Nelson (Lisa), Cherilyn McClendon (Dan), Laurie Walker (Greg), Darren Nelson (Amy), and Lynda Neuenschwander (Brian). He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren, who all love him and will miss him dearly. Lloyd expressed his love for his family on a daily basis as often as possible. He said to always smile because we are all full of Light.
The family wishes to thank Intermountain Medical Center staff, Alpine Meadow Rehabilitation and Nursing staff, and Harmony Home Health staff for their care of our father. Thank you all.
