Loile J. Bailey 1914-2008

Our mother called him a &qoute;Prince among men.&qoute; He was kind, optimistic, and a true gentleman. He will best be remembered for his golden baritone voice.

Loile Julius Bailey, 94, was born April 3, 1914 in Moab, Utah to Julius and Ruth Perkins Bailey and died August 27, 2008 in Salt Lake City. He was raised on the family cattle ranch at Spring Creek near Monticello, Utah. In 1936, he graduated from Utah State University with a degree in agriculture, where he was active in music and theater. He married Anna Fugal on May 13, 1942 in San Diego, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 2, 1943 while on leave from active duty in the South Pacific during World War II. His courtship with Anna started when he asked her to accompany him on the piano. The service they rendered together for 54 years forged one of the truly great love stories. Together, they performed hundreds of programs at community events, church services, funerals and family gatherings. Joining them on many of the programs were their five children. Loile was a member the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 30 years and also sang with the Men of Music Quartet and other vocal groups. A lifelong active member of the LDS Church, he served his first mission to the Eastern States. Together with his wife, Anna, they served missions in New Zealand, Mesa, Arizona, and Los Angeles, California. Loile had a fulfilling career as manager of the Utah Farm Production Credit Association helping farmers and ranchers in the intermountain area. He later worked for the Small Business Administration. Ingenious at building and repairing anything around the home, he was an expert craftsman, but his proudest achievement was shaping his successful family tree with great love, care and attention. After Anna’s death in 1996, Loile married Reva Vickers Redd. Together they enjoyed 11 years of happiness. She passed away in 2007. Loile was also preceded in death by his parents, brother Max, sister Marvel, daughter Ruth Christine, and great-grandson Benjamin Hendricks.

His children: John Ann, Loi Anne Harden Eyring, Kent Mable, Sue Richard Thornton, Kim James Lee 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and step-son Bryce Redd Cathy and their family honor him and the rich heritage he has left. He always considered himself one of the most blessed of all men, and as he sang so many times, &qoute;For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.&qoute;

The family would like to thank the caregivers at CareSource for the tender way they ministered to our father’s needs. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 30, 11:00 a.m. at the Monument Park 1st Ward, 1005 S. 2000 E., Salt Lake City. There will be a viewing Friday evening 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 So. 200 E. and Saturday 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
