Lois Anderson

September 19, 1917 — March 11, 2012

Our beautiful mother, Lois, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 94. She returned to her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her beloved husband Rees, and family that had preceded her in death.
Lois was born September 18, 1917 in Jensen, Utah. She was the youngest of 9 children of Alice Maria Mecham and Bernard Edward Gardner. Mother was proud of her pioneer heritage and she loved genealogy work. She was active in her church from an early age. She developed a special closeness to her father, siblings and grandparents as they rallied together to sustain family life after Lois’ beloved mother died when she was 8. After graduating from Provo High School, Lois met the love of her life, Rees Hansel Anderson, who was doing his internship at Utah State Hospital. Lois and Rees were married New Years Eve, 1937. In 1943 they were sealed together with their children, John and Margaret, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Mother was a gregarious, artistic woman who loved learning. Her wonderful homemaking skills and zeal for life blessed her husband, 7 children, extended family, friends and neighbors. She served in many callings in the LDS Church; including Young Women, Primary and Relief Society presidencies. Our mother was always a good example for her children. Lois and Rees served an LDS mission at the Oakland California Temple from 1980 to 1982. Lois was an active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Acanthus Club, and the Women’s Medical Auxiliary.
Mom’s tremendous love of family and devotion to her church sustained her throughout her life.
She will always be remembered for her sweet and gentle manner and her sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rees and her daughter, Margaret, who died in infancy. She is survived by her children: John (Lynda) Anderson, Susan (Ron) Beckman, Sally (Chris) Hallstrom, James (Loretta) Anderson, Julie Anderson, Camille (Mike) Flanagan, and Alice (Michael) Lobdell. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Many thanks go to mother’s ward family, friends and to South Davis Hospice for their loving service.
A special thanks to our sister, Julie, who unselfishly lived with and cared for mother for years. Our gratitude for Julie is indescribable.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Bountiful 11th Ward Chapel, 115 Wicker Lane (2000 South Orchard Drive). A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Saturday morning one hour prior to services at the church. Interment-Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Dr., SLC, Ut.
