Lola Eardley
1914 – 2012
Lola Blanche Hiatt Eardley, 97, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away March 1, 2012 in Bountiful, Utah. Lola was born September 25, 1914 in Hermiston, Oregon, to Charles and Lizzie Estella Smith Hiatt. She was the 7th of 9 children. Lola lived most of her life in Oregon, moving to Bountiful, Utah in 1980 after she retired from the Forest Service. She married David W. Eardley in September 1939 – they were later divorced.
Lola was devoted to, and found great joy in her family. She had 3 children (a daughter and 2 sons), 7 grandchildren and 16 (expecting the 17th) great-grandchildren, who all loved and adored her. They all kept in touch and visited her as often as they could. They each treasure and talk about the many wonderful and fun memories of their Grandma Lola. She taught them fun songs, would tease, spoil and play with them, and always remembered birthdays or special holidays with a card and a little money. She always had a candy jar or cookies for them when they came to see her.
Lola was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings where she touched the lives of others, young and old, through her teachings, love and example. She especially enjoyed working in the Relief Society and in music, including directing the ward choir. She influenced many young people when she taught early morning seminary.
Lola was always a wonderful friend to those she worked with or lived around. She was fun to be with, the life of the party, was generous with whatever she had, and was always doing something for someone else. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She made everything from candy to canning pickles, baking bread or making Thanksgiving dinner (she fed anyone who came to see her). Lola loved flowers and enjoyed working in the yard or the garden. She loved going to the hills to pick huckleberries or just to have a fun picnic.
Lola loved music and had a great talent which she shared. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in a choir, small groups, or just at home with family. Her home was always clean, organized and tastefully decorated. Lola was just a special and elect lady, a treasure to her family who all are proud of her and love her. Our mom and grandma bravely and patiently endured
without complaint all that the Lord required of her throughout her life. She was a great example and inspiration to all of us.
We would like to thank the special people at Country Care, Life Care Center of Bountiful, and Utah Hospice for the wonderful care and help she has received. We couldnt have done it without you.
Lola is survived by a daughter, Linda (John) Chatelain of Salt Lake City; a son Don (Connie) Eardley of Farr West; a son Kim (Valerie) Eardley of Baker, Oregon; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Myrna and a great-granddaughter, Jolie.
