Lola Mae Argyle Taylor

Lola Mae Argyle Taylor, an elect lady, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. Lola Mae was born on May 7, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah completing the family of Mark Mann and Susan Clark Argyle. She had one older brother, Horace, who was two years her senior.

Lola Mae attended Davis High School, then Weber College, where she took business courses preparing her for a job as the Colonel’s Secretary at Hill Air Force Base. It was during this time that she met and then married Glen Gerald Taylor, on June 5, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. Being a mother was of greatest importance to our mom, and together she and dad had eleven children.

Our mother honored many family traditions and instilled a legacy of love that has passed to children and grandchildren for annual summer trips to Yellowstone, chocolate dipping at Christmas, making holidays and birthdays extra special with planned menus that were greatly anticipated, ice cream and treats every Sunday, spring cleaning, and canning every summer and fall.

Hard worker, self-taught, independent, organized and determined are all synonymous with our dear mother. She loved to work and believed if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing well. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing dresses for her eight daughters each school year, Easter, and Christmas, then prom and wedding dresses. Mom always had a quilt up and shared her talent by making dozens of her handstitched masterpieces for children, grandchildren, and many friends and neighbors.

Learning a new skill or trying new things was never intimidating to Mom. If she saw something that needed to be done, she did it, from refinishing cabinets, sewing draperies, wallpapering, painting the entire house, and other numerous projects. She was never idle and enjoyed staying busy and being productive. She loved a clean house and required that each child contribute to the weekly chores to her exacting standards. She was meticulous at keeping records and budgets, and her calendar was always close by so that she could stay organized. Mom took great satisfaction in maintaining her yard and many hours were spent weeding, hand watering, and caring for her flowers.

Exercise was a big priority in mom’s life. She loved to run and spent many hours at the Bountiful High School track in the early morning hours. She always wanted to run a marathon, and finally did it at age 73, then, when her knees would no longer allow it, she accepted walking as a permanent replacement. She believed in healthy eating and stressed the importance of balanced homecooked meals. There were certainly exceptions, as she always enjoyed a “good” hamburger or a “nice” roast.

Mom had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She could often be found studying her scriptures, and joined our dad in leading daily study, as well as family prayer each morning and night. She served in many capacities throughout her life and emphasized never turning down a calling that she received. She and dad served four missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. Toronto, Canada, Johannesburg, South Africa, Manila, Philippines, and London, England. Her dedication and honor to the ancestors who had gone before her fueled a desire to continue their legacy and sacrifices for a church that they loved.

Mom is survived by her greatest accomplishments and joy, which are her children, Sylvia (Peter) Grush, Ellen (Wayne) Jeppson, Carol (Robert) Winter, Gary (Beth) Taylor, Paul (Deanna) Taylor, Peggy (Rock) Carter, Ruth Wells, Linda (Craig) Smoot, Kevin (Jodee) Taylor, Jean (Craig) Andrew, Emily (Bret) Henderson. She leaves behind 53 grandchildren, 118 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sweetheart Glen, parents, brother, two grandsons, and numerous friends and relatives.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington Utah, from 6:00-8:00 pm, and on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 9:00-10:30 am, at the Jensen Park Ward Building, 3024 South 1200 West, Syracuse, Utah. Funeral service will then be held at 11:00 am, followed by the interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
