Lon Mark Jefferies passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 20, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, due to complications associated with a seizure disorder. Lon enjoyed the happiest four months of his life this year after he married Jennifer Ann Black on August 19, 2015.
Lon was born May 7, 1980 in Salt Lake City and was raised in Bountiful, Utah. He attended the University of Utah where he earned undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees in Marketing and Finance and his Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA). Lon was a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) with Net Worth Advisory Group. He was well known and respected for his professionalism, knowledge and client centered approach to the job that he so loved. As an expert in his field, he contributed to Utah business magazines as well as national publications like the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, NASDAQ.com, Morningstar.com and Investment News. He maintained a Life and Health Insurance License. He was also a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). Lon commonly served as a guest speaker for local magazines and media and appeared as an expert on Fox News and KUTV. He had a large Twitter following and hosted his own blog, "Retire Ready", which he started in 2008. He also published his first e-book titled "Understanding Financial Terms" in 2009.
Those who knew Lon know that he loved sports. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan and never missed a home game during the past 15 years as a season ticket holder. He played ultimate Frisbee three times a week with a group of close friends and would talk about it almost every day. He also loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, soccer, snowboarding and biking.
Lon always had a big smile, cheerful disposition and a great sense of humor. He loved to play with his nieces and nephews and they loved to play with him because he made everything fun. Still, he took his job and life's responsibilities seriously and never hesitated to be there to help his family, his clients, or his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, his mother Ruth Ann Jefferies, his father Wilbur "Will" R. Jefferies, step-mother Karen Stein, sister Nicole Jefferies and her husband Kevin Jaget.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 26th at the LDS Bountiful North Canyon 6th Ward chapel, 965 Oakwood Drive, Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
