Lorin T Stone
"Stoney"
December 6, 1924 – June 24, 2016
Lorin T Stone passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2016 surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was 91 years old.
Lorin was born on December 6, 1924 in Sugar City, Idaho to James Calvin and Cecily Lorinda Virgin Stone. He was the fifth of seven children, being born just a few minutes after his twin sister, Lorraine.
Lorin completed his education at Sugar-Salem High School. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the Army Air Force where he served honorably during World War II in the South Pacific on the island of Guam. He worked as an Airplane Electrician and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was decorated five times for service to his country.
After returning safely home, he met his sweetheart, Maurine Louise Jones, from Victor, Idaho. They were married October 20, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Bountiful Temple on June 19, 2010. They were happily married for 68 years and shared many wonderful memories while raising their five daughters in Centerville, Utah.
Lorin was a valued employee at Little America where he worked for 43 years as a Transport Driver hauling petroleum products. Following his retirement, he and Maurine had the opportunity to work for the Forest Service as Campground Directors at Payson Lakes. Lorin loved participating in any outdoor activity. He especially loved watching football, going camping, fishing, water skiing and working in his yard. Late in life, he developed a love for cruising. He loved spending time with his family, playing games, and going out to eat.
Lorin was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His family was the most important treasure in his life. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and an attentive grandfather. He was a man of integrity, very generous to all, and he had a great sense of humor. He always had a great joke to share. He loved music and was often found singing wherever he went.
Lorin is survived by his loving wife, Maurine, his daughters Sheron (Michael) Morrell, Sherylan (Mark deceased) Mann, JaNeel (Robert) Franson, Janet (Dennis) Warner; his brother, Dyal Stone. He has 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Lorinda, nine brothers, Calvin, Leslie, Glenwood, Wendell, Carlos, Ronald, Gordon, Merrill, and Gerrill; three sisters, Phoebe, Elizabeth and Lorraine; daughter Carol, grandson Joshua Carlson, son-in-law Mark Mann, and great-grandson Chase Farley.
We give a special thanks to Tammy and Karen and their team from Encompass Home Health who so lovingly cared for Dad during the last year of his life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment at the Centerville City Cemetery.
Dad, we love you and will miss your smile and sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, please spend some time with your family and take them out to dinner because that is what Dad would do.
