Lorna Lamont Follett passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Farmington, Utah.
Lorna was born June 30, 1915, in Eagle, Idaho, to Frank Alder and Ruth Bodily Lamont. She was the third of five children. Her siblings include an older sister, Elva, deceased and older brother, William, who died at birth, a younger sister, Bernice and a younger brother, Seaborn, both are deceased. When she was seven years old, her mother died suddenly of pneumonia. After a period of time, her family increased in number when her father remarried Sarah Bodily, her mother’s sister. She had four children, Horace, Lela, Wanda, and Lucille. Lorna’s family doubled in size in one year and later, the family was joined by two sons, Frank Jr. and Bert, who are also deceased.
Lorna learned to work hard. At an early age she took the responsibility of helping her father with the farm work by feeding and milking the cows and calves, taking care of the garden, and any other work that needed to be done. She tells of the time that she only had one pair of shoes, so in order to keep them nice, she would wrap her feet in gunnysacks when she went outside to do chores.
She attended school in Preston, where she graduated from Preston High School. After graduation she found a job and worked hard to save her money.
She loved to dance and would attend the Saturday Night dances in the area where she met her husband, John Follett, who was “the best dancer” that she had ever danced with. They married in the Logan LDS Temple on November 5, 1937. They had five children: Deanna Cook (Gene Cook, deceased) Idaho Falls; John Frank (Mary Wise, deceased; Kathleen Larsen) Idaho Falls, Idaho; Kathlene (Dennis Gibbons), Farmington, Utah; and twins: William or Bill (Gretchen), and Kristine or Kris. John passed away February 2004.
Mom developed many talents: she loved drama and in her younger days performed in dramatic readings and plays. She loved to do handwork: crocheting many doilies, edging on pillowcases, and embroidering pillowcases and many other items. She loved to sew and made many dresses for her daughters for Easter, Christmas, Proms. Weddings, and any special occasion.
She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was very faithful in all of her church callings — set a good example for others about being a true Christian by serving and helping others.
She is survived by her five children and 35 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Preston 10th Ward, 155 North 200 West, Preston, Idaho. Viewing at 1:00 p.m-2:15; Funeral at 2:30 p.m. Interment- Preston Cemetery.
