Lorraine Nordberg MacKay, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Bountiful, Utah, on Monday, July 30,2012. Lorraine was born the oldest of three children in Salt Lake City to Harry Roland and Elsie Harline Nordberg on December 28, 1924. She attended East High School and the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Piano Performance. She married her sweetheart, Dewey Calder MacKay, Jr. on September 1, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. She has called the beloved hills of Bountiful her home for the past 65 years.
Lorraine was a lovely, gracious, talented and intelligent woman with far-reaching influence. She served as President of the Utah Association of Women, as a member of the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women, and she chaired the first Conference of the Utah Federation of Drug-Free Youth. She organized and served as the first PTA President of the Hannah Holbrook Elementary School and later as PTA President of the Millbrook Jr. High School. She served in many positions in the Davis County Medical Auxiliary. She was on the Instructional Development Committee for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints writing the Spiritual Living Lessons for the Relief Society for many years. She was the official historian for the Bountiful Temple during its construction and dedication. She was a magnificent choir director for many years. She also served as a ward and stake relief society president and as a Gospel Doctrine teacher. Along with her husband, Dewey, she filled four missions: in the Los Angeles Temple Visitors Center, the Salt Lake Temple Square Mission, as Stake Missionaries, and with him as he served as medical director of the United States Southwestern Region of Missions.
She is survived by her children Dee (Kathy), Brigham City; Calvin (Kathy), Peoria, Illinois; Connie Johansen (Dennis), Bountiful; and Lorin (Kayla), Bountiful; 16 grandchildren (10 grandchildren-in-law); 28 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Sharp; brother-in-law C. Reynolds MacKay; her sister-in-law Eddy Nordberg and many adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, her parents, and her brother Harry Don Nordberg.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, August 6, 2012, 11:00 am at the Canyon Park Ward Chapel, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening, August 5, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful; and prior to the services Monday 9:45-10:45 at the church.
