Lothar Nestman

Biography

BOUNTIFUL-Our loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, and friend, Lo Nestman (Thar), died peacefully in the home he loved, October 16, 2013 of causes incident to age. He was born in Chemnitz, Germany, May 7, 1926 and was blessed to come to America at an early age. He lived with his beloved grandmother and uncles in Salt Lake City, where he later attended West High School. Following graduation he served in the US Navy during World War II. A mission to Holland gifted him with the “Dutch Missionaries” – lifetime buddies that were one of the happiest parts of his life. Following his mission, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Irene Michelsen, on September 15, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from the University of Utah, where he and Marilyn part of the infamous Study Group – one of the longest-running groups of friends in the Salt Lake Valley. Lothar loved life. He loved having family and friends over for barbeques or any other excuse to get together, and he and Marilyn were warm, hospitable hosts. His sense of humor was legendary, although nobody enjoyed his stories more than he did! He loved trips to Capistrano Beach, Bear Lake, St. George and anywhere else he could spend time with family and friends. Lothar had a big heart and was never too busy to serve his fellow man. He practiced the gospel of Jesus Christ in his treatment of others and in all his actions. His tennis and golf outings with his sons and grandsons were his favorites, and we are left with volumes of great memories and stories, for which we are grateful! He may be gone, but will not be forgotten.

Thar is survived by Lo (Janyce), Randy (Sandra), Mark (Cindy), Paul (Beth), Gary (Brooke); 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Lo was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the North Canyon 7th Ward, 3350 South 100 East. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the church prior to services.
