Lunetta Peterson

Lunetta June Peterson, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Woods Cross, Utah on June 24, 2014.
Born December 18, 1926 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Lunetta was the oldest of three children born to Charles Andrew and Lola Mantle Polk. Lunetta’s early years were spent in O’Fallon and Springfield, IL. Her father passed away from cancer when she was 15 years old. After graduating from high school she briefly attended college in Springfield. Her younger sister became ill and the doctors recommended the family move to a warmer climate. Lunetta boarded a train and headed to southern California to seek employment. While living in Culver City, CA Lunetta frequented a local grocery store where she met and eventually married the grocery store clerk, Clifford Jay Peterson on December 20, 1947. She continued to work while Clifford attended law school. After law school they moved to Torrance, CA where they resided for 28 years. They are the parents of six children.
Lunetta was affectionately known as “super grandma”, a description that fit her perfectly. Grandma’s house was always the place to be. Every grandchild has fond memories of trips to Disneyland, Chuck E. Cheese’s, swimming and video games. When the grandkids could not visit her, she would travel hundreds of miles to see them.
Lunetta is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Wacker (Al), her children, Pam Waldron (Gary), David Peterson (Cynthia), Richard Peterson (Patti), Janice Johnson (Craig), Tina Cobabe (Rick), and Karen Rowe (Greg), 31 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Peterson and brother Walter Polk.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, UT. Visitation will be held prior to services on the same day from 10:30 to 11:00.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 22605 Kent Avenue, Torrance, California 90505.
