LuRee Ottley

October 18, 1922 — November 13, 2013

LuRee Sanders Ottley, 91, passed away peacefully at Legacy Village of Layton, Utah on November 13, 2013. She was born October 18, 1922 to John and Lettie Pearl Davis Sanders in West Jordan, Utah. LuRee married Wayne W. Ottley in the Salt Lake LDS temple on November 3, 1942.

LuRee rendered a lifetime of service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Young Women’s President, MiaMaid teacher, Sunday School teacher, Primary Chorister, Stake and Ward Relief Society President, Relief Society Secretary, Compassionate Service leader, Spiritual Living leader, Stake Temple Preparation instructor and as a Family History Consultant. She was a Visiting Teacher all her life and served with Wayne as a Home Teacher.

After she and Wayne raised their family, they served four full-time missions for the Church: Washington DC Temple Visitors Center Mission, Special Representatives Mission in Galilee, Israel, proselyting Mission in Columbia, South Carolina and Temple Square Public Relations Mission in Salt Lake. She and Wayne also enjoyed serving for 8 1/2 years on the Church Hosting Committee.

LuRee was a “people-person” and found her joy in being of service to all. The source of her greatest happiness was her husband, posterity, and her dearly loved “LuAyne Heights” home that Wayne built at the mouth of Millcreek Canyon in Salt Lake City where they lived for 53 years.

She is survived by her children: Glen (Sherie) Florida, Linda Rich (Doug) Provo, Utah, Kent (Jolene) South Jordan, Utah, Fay Croxford (Layne) Layton, Utah, and Gaye Brown (Kim) Kaysville, Utah, 26 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, one granddaughter, and her husband.

Funeral services will be held at Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street on Monday November 18th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30- 10:30 am before the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the LDS Church Missionary Fund. Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.

After the passing of our dad in 2011, and over the past two years, mom often said to others, “I’m the last leaf on the tree.” The branch might be bare now mom, but you have given us great roots to grow and flourish on our own. You will be missed! Our special thanks to the kind staff, caregivers, and residents at Legacy Village who treated mom with such respect and kept her smiling.
