Lyden Harold Hathaway, 75, passed away on December 20, 2024, joyfully returning to be with his eternal sweetheart Jen, his cherished son Lohr, and many other loved ones who went before him including his parents, Agnes and Harold Hathaway, and his two sisters, Joanie and Judy.
Born in Ramsey, Minnesota, on April 21, 1949, Lyden was the youngest of three children. He was dearly loved by his older sisters, who, being 13 and 10 years his senior, often took on the role of second mothers, helping to care for and guide him through his childhood. Lyden’s childhood in Minnesota was marked by a passion for ice hockey, a sport he played with great enthusiasm, even at the cost of losing a few teeth along the way. He also developed a deep love for music, mastering instruments like the drums, ukulele, and harmonica, and found joy in expressing himself through sound.
Religion was an important part of Lyden’s life, first as a member of the Catholic faith and then as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which he joined as a young adult. Lyden was blessed with the opportunity to serve a mission in Japan, where he enjoyed sharing the gospel and gained a great appreciation for Japanese culture.
Lyden married Annette LeSeur, and together they had a son, Lohr Lyden Hathaway, to whom he was a devoted father. In 2006, Lyden married Jennifer Ings in the Mesa, AZ temple. He welcomed her children, Elizabeth and David, into his life and became an inseparable part of theirs.
Selfless love and commitment to his family and friends defined much of his life. A special example of Lyden’s loving character was his devotion to his sister, Joanie, when she developed dementia. Lyden cared for her with immense patience and kindness, visiting her almost daily at her assisted living facility and always making sure she was well cared for.
Lyden had a quirky sense of humor and a thrifty nature, often finding great deals and enjoying the thrill of a good bargain. He was generous and thoughtful, and delighted in finding the perfect gifts for the people he cared about. He was a thoughtful, and introspective man who loved to ponder different theologies and viewpoints, always seeking to understand others' perspectives and to share his own. This led to many lively and enriching discussions with family and friends.
In addition to his family and friends Lyden’s interests included politics, shopping, DJing, and hosting dances. As a Vikings and Twins fan he enjoyed watching sports and also took the time to play tennis and pickleball. He was always up for a lively conversation and enjoyed connecting with others, whether through music, fun discussions, or his unique sense of humor.
Lyden’s favorite time of year was Halloween, a season he truly embraced. He loved dressing up in creative costumes and putting together elaborate spook alleys for children to enjoy. He bonded with others who also shared his enthusiasm for Halloween and a large part of his garage was dedicated to Halloween decorations.
Lyden was predeceased by his son, Lohr; wife, Jen; parents, Agnes and R. Harold Hathaway; sisters, Joan and Judith; and brother-in-law, Ron Peterson. He is survived by his step children Elizabeth (Peter) Bracken, David Hallan; 7 grandchildren, his 4 nieces as well as many other dear family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to join is in remembering Lyden’s life on January 10 th , 2025 at the LDS meetinghouse located at 250 West Elberta Drive, Pleasant View, Utah. A viewing will be held at 10am with services following at 11am. Interment at the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
