Lysle Reynolds Cahoon

January 15, 1916 — January 1, 2016

Beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Lysle Reynolds Cahoon, died peacefully surrounded by his family at home in Bountiful, Utah on 1 January 2016, just two weeks short of his 100th birthday.
Born 15 January 1916 in Rexburg, Idaho to Miles Reynolds and Lillian Matilda Zollinger Cahoon, Lysle's formative years were spent in Salt Lake City, Utah and Denver, Colorado. After serving a mission to the Eastern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and graduating from the University of Denver with a degree in Commerce, Lysle married his sweetheart Betty Jane Preston on 22 November 1940 in the Utah Salt Lake City Temple. That same year he began his long career with Sears Roebuck, which lasted until 1977, interrupted only by his service as a Captain in the Quartermaster Corps during World War II. After the War Lysle returned to Sears and he and Betty began their family, which would consist of five children, Ren, Kevin, Leslie, John and Bob. Lysle's career in accounting and financial management with Sears took him to Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lincoln, Nebraska, Des Moines, Iowa, and Addison and Naperville, Illinois. During these busy years Lysle faithfully served the Lord as a Counselor in the Northern States Mission Presidency, a Bishop, a Stake President, and a Regional Representative of the Twelve. He also served as Chairman of the Board of WCLR Radio in Chicago and on the school board of DuPage County, Illinois.
Following his retirement in 1977, Lysle and Betty relocated to Utah. The next year they were called to preside over the California San Jose Mission, followed by a Church Service Mission to Solihull, England. In 1985, they were called to serve as President and Matron of the Illinois Chicago Temple. Shortly after their return to Utah Betty passed away on 16 October 1988.
Lysle married Patricia Doctor Roberts on 30 December 1989. Soon after their marriage they were called to serve as temple missionaries in the Australia Sydney Temple. They spent the rest of their years together traveling, enjoying each other's company and taking care of one another.  Following Patty's death on 25 January 2005, Lysle lived with his daughter Leslie and her husband Gary who lovingly cared for him until his passing.
Of all of Lysle's accomplishments, his greatest was that of husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his beloved wives, his sister Barbara Cahoon Perry and his dear friend Barbara Drake.
He is survived by his children, Ren (Sue), Kevin (Jeri), Leslie (Gary) Crockett, John, and Bob (Betsy), and by Patty's children Melinda (Ken) Zabriskie, Kim (Sheryl) Roberts, Jaime (Coby) Jones, Jana (Bruce) Benzon, Lindsey Leon (Justin) and Juliane Roberts, as well as 44 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren. The entire family wishes to thank Kate, Anna, Rosemary and Jon for their compassionate service to and loving care of Lysle.
