Margaret Joy Cook, 4 months old, passed away in the arms of her family on July 19, 2024, in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital.
Born on February 29, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Margaret is the third child of Christopher and Jessica (McKenna) Cook.
Margaret was born with a severe congenital heart defect and had open heart surgery at 6 days old.
Continuously faced with many additional and unexpected health challenges following her heart surgery, Margaret proved to be a fighter. She quickly captured everyone’s heart with her giant, beautiful, and penetrating eyes. With less than 10 days spent at home over her 4 months, her caregivers at Primary Children’s Hospital became a second family and cared for her with great love. The hospital became a second home for her family as well, as they spent every moment possible at her side, reading books, singing songs, snuggling, and cooing over her.
Although she wasn’t able to meet many people outside of her immediate family and medical team, Margaret was supremely loved and supported by many extended family members, neighbors, and friends. She had an army praying for her and following her progress every step of the way.
Margaret is survived by her father, mother, sister (Penelope), and brother (Gilbert). She also leaves behind loving grandparents (Allan and Lisa Cook, Jon and Sherrie McKenna), aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her family wishes to sincerely thank the countless and wonderful people who cared for her during her time at Primary Children’s Hospital and lovingly referred to her as Maggie.
While Margaret was with us for only a short time, she has brought so much joy, and will be deeply missed.
