Margaret Elizabeth Olson

Layton, UT – Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Margaret Elizabeth Olson passed away on Tuesday May 29th, 2018 due to complications of age. She was surrounded by many of her loved ones.

Margaret was born on October 16th, 1931 to Ralph Dewey Porter and Anna Clarice Nix in Park City, UT. She was also blessed with wonderful step mother, Anna Lora Brown Wilkinson. Margie grew up in the small town of Fruita, CO, where she eventually met the visitor she would marry, Glen Ivan Olson on June 1st, 1950, and from then on would then be known as “Margaret”. His work at IBM took them all over the country, but they eventually settled in Bountiful and Farmington. Together they raised seven children and a few foster children. 

Margaret loved to garden and had no limits regarding the challenges or scope she would tackle. She loved learning new things and would take on projects that would teach her new skills she could share with others.  Above all else, she is remembered for her faithful church and temple service, and willingness to reach out to help those in need all around her.  Family, neighbors, and friends were often the recipients of gifts from her garden or experiences learning new things.  She loved to have all of her family around at her home and went to great efforts to ensure that everyone had a good time.

She is survived by her children Wanda (David) Schoenfeld, Marilyn (Steven) Smith, Brent, David (Claudia), William (Ha), Steven (SharLee), foster son Curtis Keith, sister-in-law Doral Porter, and many grand children, great-grand children, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, son Dale, husband Glen, brother William “Bill” Porter, brother and sister-in-law Peter and Fern Plaizier, and grandson Jaxon.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 5th at the Farmington 6th Ward at 79 South 1525 West in Farmington. There will not be a viewing, but flowers can be sent to Russon Mortuary at 295 N Main Street, Bountiful, UT 84010.
