Margene Balls Siegfried

1930-2016

Margene Balls Siegfried, born on March 6, 1930 in Brigham City, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2016 in Bountiful, Utah.  Margene was born the second child and second daughter of Arden Cleon Balls and Harriet Woolf Balls.  Margene’s life through High School was split between Brigham City and Cache Valley where she enjoyed many fun experiences and relationships.  Margene attended North Cache High School during one period of living in Cache Valley, but later upon returning to Brigham with her family, graduated from Box Elder High School in 1948.  It was upon moving back to Brigham that Margene met Bud Siegfried who she married on December 21, 1951.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple in 1964.

Margene was known for many things, one of which was her strong work ethic.  She had many jobs as a young girl which included working on local farms, cleaning peoples’ homes and working in local stores and restaurants.  She always kept a clean house and was also a wonderful cook and seamstress, sewing many of her three children and grandchildren’s clothes especially when they were young.  Although a dedicated and hard worker, both in and out of the home, Margene also found plenty of time both as a young girl and later as an adult to relax and have a good time.  She had many friends in both Brigham and Cache Valley, including many wonderful cousins, that she loved spending time with.  Margene stayed close with many of these individuals through the rest of her life.  Her life-long association with many of these friends was a great source of joy in her life.

Another source of joy for Margene was golf.  Margene was introduced to golf by her husband Bud soon after they were married.  They enjoyed hundreds of rounds of golf together over the course of their marriage and introduced their children to golf as well.  Most of the family vacations when their children were still at home involved camping in the family trailer at Wasatch State Park; golfing everyday and then swimming or horse back riding at the nearby Homestead Resort.  Margene also loved to play cards with her family with only an occasional board game mixed in.

Margene worked most of her adult life in the banking industry except when her kids were young.  While still in Brigham, she worked at both Box Elder Bank and First Security Bank.  After moving to Bountiful with Bud and the children in 1969 she returned to banking at the newly opened First Security Bank branch on Main Street in Bountiful.  She worked there for many years as the operations officer before moving out to First Security’s Central Operations Office near the airport.

Margene was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  As an adult, Margene enjoyed serving in many ward and stake callings particularly in the Relief Society and Young Women’s programs.  Margene and Bud also greatly enjoyed attending the temple monthly throughout their married life.  After retiring from their respective jobs, Margene and Bud served together as senior missionaries in Columbus, Ohio where they continued to make new friends and influence others for good.

Margene was pre-deceased by her husband Bud who passed away in October 2013.  She was also pre-deceased by her older sister Renee Olsen and younger siblings Jodie Balls and Barbara Holman and granddaughter Kalli Brown.

Margene is survived by her three children, Ned P. and Chante Siegfried, Val A and Carman Siegfried, and Paula and Pat Brown.  She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The family wants to acknowledge and thank the special people who have helped care for Margene the last three years of her life.  Those include the wonderful staff at Heritage Home Assisted Living and the compassionate individuals with Hospice Care at both South Davis Home Health and Applegate.

A viewing will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Orchard LDS Chapel, 3707 South 800 West, Bountiful, Utah.  Friends and family may pay respects before the services from 9:30 – 10:45.  Graveside services will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.  Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com
