Marian Benedict

October 29, 1922 — April 13, 2011

BOUNTIFUL-Marian Meyers Benedict, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at age 88 on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at North Canyon Care Center in Bountiful, Utah. Marian was born to Lewis Edward and Merl (MacKay) Meyers in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 29, 1922. She attended East High School in Salt Lake City and graduated as valedictorian from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California. She and her husband-to-be, George Call Benedict, met when they both worked at the Clearfield Army Depot. They were married on August 5, 1944, in Salt Lake City. She was sealed to her husband and children in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 8, 1957. She loved her family and, in her later years, especially loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in various callings in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, and Sunday School. She often spoke with great love of the children and young women she taught. She worked for several companies as a bookkeeper. She retired from South Davis Water District where she made many dear friends. After retiring, she enjoyed being a volunteer helping young students improve their reading. She loved gardening, designing homes, listening to good music, reading and especially being with her family. Marian is survived by her children, JoAnn & Kent Brierley, Sally Benedict, and George E. & Julie Benedict; grandchildren, Jaymie Reynolds, K.C. & LaVon Brierley, Sam & Amie Brierley, Quinn & Shalon Brierley, Sean Brierley, Laurie & Landon Limb, Brad and Brittany Benedict, and TJ and Cami Benedict; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Gayle Martin; and her sister-in-law, Freida Tonge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George C. Benedict. Thank you, Mom, for your constant love and faithful example. We love you. Our thanks to the people at the North Canyon Care Center and Vista Hospice for the tender care Mom received. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Val Verda 9th Ward, 3317 South 800 West, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment is at Wasatch Lawn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
