Marie Jane Thurman Cheney, died November 18, 2018 at the age of 85 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by loved ones. Born January 8, 1933 in Green River, Utah on the same land her father was born on to Raymond C. Thurman and Lila J. Burnett Thurman of Price, Utah.
The family moved to Hiawatha Utah when she was two years old where she attended elementary through 9th grade. Her younger sister and only sibling, Margaret Thurman Hislop was a great comfort to her and she cherished their close relationship all her life. At age 12, Marie was crowned Harvest Queen of the Green and Gold Ball. Later, she was bused from Hiawatha to Price to attend high school and graduated from Carbon High. The family moved to Price and she completed two years of junior college at College of Eastern Utah. Her interest in business administration led her to additional schooling in Salt Lake City. She attended Stevens Henagar College and lived in student housing which is where she met the love of her life Robert E. Cheney, Sr. " Bob". They were married civilly on May 31, 1958 and later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on April 13, 1961 where they were sealed to their deceased baby girl, Deborah Lynn. Marie has always put her family first as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She faithfully served her church in callings as Primary Presidency, Relief Society Presidency and Stake Missionary program . Marie joined the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in 2002 where she thoroughly enjoyed exploring her genealogy and made new friends. As a young lady she worked for Kress's as a stocker then took time off to raise her family. When Bob passed she returned to work as a single mother of three and worked for First Security Bank for over 25 years before retiring. At retirement she chose to further serve her Savior by accepting a nine year position as ordinance worker in the LDS Bountiful temple. She was most happy spending time with her family – putting together puzzles – homemaking arts – traveling/camping and gardening. Marie loved to share the fruits of her labor and always had an extra zucchini to give away with a smile that will forever be in our hearts.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her baby daughter Deborah Lynn Cheney, her missionary son Raymond Clyde Cheney and her step daughter Roberta Diane Blanchard (Marion deceased) Waldon. She is survived by her sister Margaret Hislop (Paul deceased), daughter Lynetta McAllister (Dale), son Robert E. Cheney, Jr. (Joyce), step son Larry Blanchard (Shirley), grandchildren Cherise Lynne McAllister and Ethan Trevor McAllister (Mariah), nephews Dwaine Hislop (Angell) and Shawn Hislop (Melissa).
