Marie Louise Hoffman, 80 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Avalon Care Center 6 months and one day after her sweet Sis, Helen, passed away.
Marie was born on March 20th, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to Francis Jerome Hoffman and Louise Marie (Salamone) Hoffman.
Marie never married but that didn’t stop her from raising a family of her own. She helped her sister and was another mom to her niece and nephews and her great nieces and nephew. They loved her like a mom and grandma.
Marie was the ultimate caregiver. She cared for her mom after her dad passed away at 54 and continued to until her mom passed away from leukemia in 1991. After that she lived with her sister and when Helen was diagnosed with colon cancer, Marie stepped in again and cared for Helen. They were never a part those two, attached at the hip until Helen’s passing in November.
After working at National Premium Budget Corp. for over 30 years in Detroit as a data processor, Marie moved to Utah with her sister, Helen, in 2007 and built a whole new set of relationships with her great nieces and nephew, and great-great nieces and nephews there! She would let the kids do makeovers on her and there were many times she had a multitude of mini ponytails all over her head which she would proudly model.
Six months after Marie came to Utah she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with her sister. Her and Helen made lasting and loving relationships with so many people in the Bountiful 50th ward that she will have forever. Marie found peace in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was so grateful for that.
Marie loved all animals and especially her Sassy (cat). Sassy was terrified of everyone except Marie. Marie was her safe place.
Marie’s favorite thing was to sit in her chair, enjoy her snacks and pop, and watch Walking Dead or Dancing with the Stars, or any version of talent show on TV. Everyone knew to be extremely quiet when Aunt was watching “her” shows.
Her health was never the best. Aunt suffered from two different cancers, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and a host of other health issues but she was always smiling and laughing. She had the best laugh. We love you Aunt, so much. We will miss you tremendously but know you are happy back with your Sis, your mom, your dad, and Sassy. And even though you are free from this mortal body, we know you are still anti-exercise.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister. She is survived by all her surrogate kids: Mark (Karen) Bouchard of Rigby, Idaho; Debra McDonald of Ferndale, Michigan; and Francis Bouchard of Clearfield, Utah. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews (grandchildren) and 16 great nieces and nephews (great-grandchildren).
A viewing will be held this Friday, May 20th at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah from 6-8pm. Marie will be laid to rest next to her sister and near her parents in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan.
