Marie Varina Upton

Marie Varina Humphries Upton, 82, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2017. Marie was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on December 5, 1934, the only child of Clifton Thomas and Mary Lee (Hudgins) Humphries.  In 1957, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served as a full-time missionary in the Atlantic States Mission, and upon her return married her sweetheart sailor, Clair Holt Upton, on January 10, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia; they were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple four days later, on January 14, 1959 by special permission of the First Presidency.  Together they traveled the United States and abroad, and during the final months of her life, he remained daily at her side.  Marie served in the Relief Society and Primary, and was a Girl Scout leader.  She had a tender heart, and gave all that she had to offer in the service of others.  Her dearest treasure was her family, and her greatest desire was that her family would be loving and close, in this life and through eternity.

Marie is survived by her husband; her children, Teresa Upton, Thomas (Leticia) Upton, and Randy (Meg) Upton; her grandchildren, Dax (Lynzzi) Upton, Destyni Upton, Summer (Tyler) King, Jarrett Upton, Luke Upton and Remington Upton; Jordoun (Josh) Surratt, Kaylie (Joe) Gordon, Seaira Georgio, Alayna Georgio, MaCall Georgio, and her great-grandchildren, Marlee and Maya King, Rylen Gordon and Skylar Gordon, and Braxton Surratt.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Bountiful East Stake Center, 600 E 2150 South, Bountiful, Utah.  Friends and family may visit Monday, August 7, 2017 at Russon Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful, Utah from 6-8 pm, and Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 at the church prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
