She never married. Marilyn had several loves throughout her life. One was ballet which she studied as a child. She dreamed of being a ballerina someday. She loved classical music, animals, especially dogs and horses. Her miniature poodle, Reagan, was her faithful companion for many years. She was an accomplished singer and had a lovely soprano voice.
Her favorite hymn was “Thy Spirit, Lord, Has Stirred Our Souls”. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She particularly enjoyed attending the Temple in her later years.
Marilyn graduated from Brigham Young University in Speech and Dramatic Arts & Communications in the summer of 1971. She worked in several customer service areas and companies. She taught school in the Los Angeles School District, namely in the Compton area and found it very challenging. She was creative in many ways and yearned to develop her talents. With the $ she received from LA Schools for an injury she suffered at school she went to Europe and took tours, art classes, and tried to make some of her dreams come true.
She admired President Ronald Reagan and became a life-long Republican and would talk politics with anyone who would listen.
She lived for many years in the Washington D.C. area then eventually moved back West to a Home in Idaho. She eventually decided she wanted to move to Utah to be nearer family. Her brother John Harris and his wife, Shellie, were very helpful in getting her settled in Layton, Utah where she has lived for the last several years. She has had wonderful extra Care-Keepers as well as John and Shellie and their family members to assist her with many technical and physical needs these last few years. Her health began declining with numerous falls and surgeries. Then, her kidneys started to fail, and she passed away on June 29, 2023.
