Marilyn Kay Ferrell Beal, age 75 died of congestive heart failure, November 1, 2016. She was born June 9, 1941, in her grandparent's farm house near the small town of Taloga in northwestern Oklahoma. Kay’s parents were John and Madalaine Titus. It was a difficult delivery that resulted in Kay having cerebral palsy.
Kay's parents taught her love for God and country, honesty, and to be as independent as possible with her handicap. The family moved to Utah in 1946. Kay grew up playing cowboys and Indians and roller skating. Kay was baptized a member of the LDS church at age 15. She graduated from Springville High school in 1960. She graduated from BYU in 1965 and was honored as one of that year's outstanding seniors. She was managing editor of the BYU Yearbook. In her church callings she was a genealogy instructor, a young women's camp director, and a visiting teacher.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Robert (Bob) Max Beal who died March 8, 2012. Survived by Sisters Cheryl Petersen, and Virginia F. Shawver, a daughter Beatriz Elena Hernandez, sons John J. Beal and Brian R. Beal, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great granddaughters all under age one.
After graduating from BYU, Kay worked as a social worker in Duchesne, Utah and then at the American Fork training school. She loved working with the mentally handicapped students and their parents. Kay was fast becoming an old maid social worker so she decided to move to Provo and attend a BYU singles ward. There she met her future husband Bob Beal. He was working on his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and he also had cerebral palsy. In a two year period the couple dated and broke up several times before marrying in the Salt Lake LDS temple November 29, 1971. They lived in southern California for five years then moved to Farmington, Utah in 1976. After thirty five years they moved to Bountiful in 2011 to an assisted living facility. Bob died five months later. Kay has been on oxygen since December 2008 which has limited her activities.
Kay would want most to leave to her family the knowledge of the great power of prayer and its guiding influence. Following those prayerful promptings is what formed their family and brought each of them into this particular family. First the prompting of a temple marriage, second the prompting to adopt John, third to adopt Beatriz Elena, and fourth adopting Brian. Follow your prayerful promptings always.
Bob and Kay truly did life together with blessings on from high, often overcoming their physical handicaps like using three hands to attempt putting in one screw. Kay treasured most knowing we have a loving Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ. The thing she enjoyed the most was being with family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the church, 1533 N. 1075 W., Farmington. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, November 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N.
