Marilyn Louise Beesley Goodrich departed this life peacefully Monday, November 29, 2021, surrounded by her husband of 69 years, Glenn Goodrich, her sister Sherry Terry, and her twelve children.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 4, 1932, Marilyn was the first of five children of Horace Pratt Beesley and Mary Roslyn Brazier. In 1938, they moved from Salt Lake to Bountiful where Marilyn attended Stoker School, South Davis Junior High, and Davis High School, graduating as a valedictorian in 1950.
As a teenager, she met Glenn Goodrich of Vernal, her future husband and love of her life. She was impressed by his mother, Violet Mary Starkie Goodrich, the gracious mother of twelve children, and sought to model her life after hers. While Glenn served a mission to Texas-Louisiana, she dated and waited, cherishing all 235 letters he sent her. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder Mark E. Petersen November 12, 1952. Marilyn was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 62 years.
Marilyn and Glenn moved to San Francisco, where he was stationed in the Army during the Korean War. Their first two daughters were born there. After returning to Utah, they added ten more children to the family.
As a mother of twelve and devoted volunteer in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as a teacher, officer, ordinance worker and organist in the Bountiful Temple, Marilyn led “a perfect life,” in the words of her husband. With Glenn she served missions for the Church in Tanzania and Mongolia.
Marilyn’s many talents enriched the lives of thousands. With her love of music, she taught countless piano students at the Progressive School of Music and in her home. She also taught natural childbirth to many young mothers. Amazingly, she always remembered and honored the birthdays of hundreds of family and friends. As mom and grandmother to so many, she still showered every child with love and handcrafted gifts.
Her life was shaped most of all by her prayers to Heavenly Father, whom she fully trusted, and loved her Savior and His Church as a true example of charity, patience, and kind words.
Preceded in death by her parents and sisters Janice Hartvigsen (Jay) and Carol Moon (Brent), Marilyn is survived by her husband, her sister Sherry Terry (Verlan), her brother Brent Beesley (Bonnie), brother-in-law Brent Moon (Val), sister-in-law Marquita Gerber (Ron); and children Roselyn Jones (Rick), Valerie England (Breck), Jeffery Goodrich (Joan), Wendy McKenna (Richard), Gary Goodrich (Valerie), Laurie Ausseresses (Alex), Randy Goodrich (Kathy), Mary Riggs (Lane), Marcie Hansen (Bradley), Melanie Wilkes (Bradley), Becky Eriksson (Daniel), and Sharon Hale (Matthew); and more than a hundred grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
