Marilyn Soderquist

Marilyn passed away peacefully in the morning of April 24 surrounded by family on both sides of the veil.
Marilyn was born August 5, 1929 in Burley, Idaho to Jesse and Minnie Lawler, the second of four children. At 8 years old the family located to California and in 1938 settled in Santa Rosa which Minnie called “the perfect place to live.” Their house at 711 Charles Street was home.
Marilyn met her eternal sweetheart, Bill Soderquist, at Santa Rosa High School. They dated and danced at locations along the Russian River until Bill graduated High School and later enlisted in the Army in January 1946. They were engaged to be married before he left. Upon his return in August 1948 they resumed their romance and were married by Bishop Whitmer in Reno, Nevada on January 1, 1949. Marilyn and Bill were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in June 1953.
Marilyn and Bill’s lives were forever changed when, in February 1955, two little boys, Alan and Steve, were brought into their lives through adoption forming a forever family that was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on November 27, 1956. Marilyn loved her boys and was dedicated and successful at being the best mother two lucky boys could ever want or need.
Marilyn loved to dance and she and Bill spent a lifetime dancing, teaching dance and organizing dances. Their invented “Balboa” step was the envy of the dance floor. Marilyn also enjoyed cooking and was often found making cookies, cakes and pies and delivering them to friends and those in need of cheer.
Marilyn was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully throughout her life in many callings including 20 years as Young Women President and in ward and stake Relief Society presidencies, activities director, and, of course, dance director with Bill. Their crowning service was the honor to be called as temple ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple.
Marilyn is survived by her sister Sharon Hart (Gary), her two sons Alan (Linda) and Steve (Pat), her eight grandchildren Bill, Andrew, Michelle, Todd, Amy, Randall, Beth, and David as well as 17 great grandchildren…all of whom she cherishes.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the Bountiful 7th Ward, 1250 South Main, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Tuesday morning from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the church prior to services.
