Our beautiful Marilyn progressed from this earthly existence on June 25th, 2022, peacefully and content. She lived a full and good life in her nearly 87 years and felt prepared to move forward.
Marilyn was born in her childhood home in Grace, Idaho, on October 22, 1935, to Brigham Willard and Emily Marette Harris Williams, the youngest of 9 children. Her family of faith and the idyllic community of Grace shaped her rock-solid but gentle character. After high school, she left Grace (but it never left her) for Idaho Falls to pursue her education in cosmetology. While there, she met and married Vince Glover who was working at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratories.
For over 40 years together, they raised three children in Tucson (graduate school for Vince), Lewiston (Colorado), Kansas City, and Boulder. During most of those years, Marilyn owned various hair salons, sometimes in her home, ending her career in her salon in a senior living center—she reflected fondly on her wonderful experiences in that career. They returned to Idaho Falls for retirement. Not long after, her good and devoted husband, Vince, was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a short time later in 1998.
As a recent widow, Marilyn bravely signed up to serve a full-time mission in Mississippi where she had many delightful and faith-promoting experiences, and made a real difference in the lives of the good people there.
Not long after her mission, she was introduced to Don McBride who was also recently widowed. They soon married and enjoyed many happy years together traveling, serving two Church service missions, finding opportunities to serve in their neighborhood and ward, and spending time with their families. When Don passed away, Marilyn continued to serve for many years as a Salt Lake Temple worker.
Marilyn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an effective leader, but regardless of her calling, her service was characterized by a genuine love for others, a sincere desire to help and support those in need, and a strong focus on making meaningful personal connections.
A few years ago, Marilyn met and married her good friend and neighbor Paul Wood. They enjoyed their sweet, adventurous, and too-short time together until his passing.
Christ-like characteristics guided every aspect of Marilyn’s life and her interactions with other people (friends and strangers alike); she was loving, kind, compassionate, humble, engaging, optimistic, and genuine. In her sweet, humble way, she lived her creed: “It’s not for me to ever judge anyone but simply to love everyone.” She let nothing interfere with her desire to accept, understand, and love others. She was an authentic exemplar of Christian discipleship.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Michael, her favorite sister, Lois Beers, and by many nieces, nephews, children, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters, and her two daughters, Denise and Joyce.
