Marion Lenore Stewart Peterson
1942 ~ 2016
Marion Lenore Stewart Peterson, 74, was released from her 18 year battle with ill health on November 10, 2016. Marion’s valiant struggle was made bearable by her devotion to family and friends, and to her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she adored. She loved family history; her dedicated research and temple service have produced records for more than 100,000 individuals. We know that her reception beyond the veil was glorious as she was greeted by many grateful souls.
Marion was born on June 22, 1942 to Thomas Marion and Anna Taylor Stewart in Las Vegas, Nevada. She attended Las Vegas High School and graduated from Brigham Young University, where she served as the Associated Women Students President.
She married Brent Russell Peterson in the St. George Temple on September 13, 1963. They spent their lives together in service, including three LDS missions: Palmyra, New York; the Kaysville Mill and as directors of the Kaysville Family History Center.
Marion was a teacher, an administrator, a writer and a Book of Mormon scholar, which she read more than 30 times, still studying it daily until the time of her passing. She was the Utah Director of Cancer Education with the American Cancer Society. She dedicated her professional life to helping people battle cancer, even after being diagnosed with it herself.
Her passing is marked with sadness, but also rejoicing because she knew where she came from, why she was here, and where she was going. She spent her life sharing this testimony with her family: devoted husband Brent; sons, Jeffrey (Tammy) and Thomas (Stacey); grandchildren Katie (Cole) Francis, Elder Sumner Peterson, Soren Peterson, William Peterson, Benjamin Peterson, Prescott Peterson, Fletcher Peterson and Marion “Maggie” Peterson. She is also survived by a dear sister, LouAnne (Richard) Schwendiman. At her passing, Marion was reunited with her loving parents, brother-in-law Blaine Peterson and grandson, Michael Peterson.
Funeral services will be held at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 201 S. 600 E., on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:00 am; with a viewing prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 am. Friends may also visit the family on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N Main Street, Farmington. Interment at the Farmington Cemetery.
Marion wished to express her love and thanks to all her family, friends and associates for making her life happy and rewarding.
