Marion "Ray" Longhurst

January 15, 1926 — October 20, 2019

Our caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Marion Ray Longhurst, died peacefully at home in Layton, Utah on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019.

Ray was the middle of three sons born to Willard Leslie Longhurst and Eliza Loreen Homer on January 15, 1926. Raised on a farm in Shelly, Idaho, during the Great Depression, Ray knew the value of hard work. During his high school years, he took flying and photography courses which prepared him for his two years of service in the Army Air Corp.  Photography and flying were two of his life-long loves.

After WWII and his military service came to an end, Ray served a mission for the Church of Jesus Church of Latter-day Saints in Northern California. He attended Brigham Young and Utah State Universities.

Before graduating from Utah State, he married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Joan Flamm in the Logan Temple on Oct 17, 1952.  He opened a photography studio in Blackfoot and later, a camera store in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Ray and Joan lived until moving to Bountiful, Utah. There he worked in property management, later becoming the owner of REMA (Real Estate Management Associates), which is still in operation today. He served as president of the Salt Lake Chapter of IREM (Institute of Real Estate Management) and was active in Rotary Club.

Ray faithfully served in many church callings, some of which included the Bishopric, Young Men’s, and Sunday School teacher. He loved missionary work and served many missions, doing many things in many places, including Temple Square, Genealogy Library, and Welfare Square in Salt Lake City, UT. He and Joan also served in Kirtland, OH, Palmyra, NY, and Nauvoo, Il.

Together, Ray and Joan raised five wonderful children, Linda (Alan) Burns, Dale (Mary Ann), Alan (Laura), Denis (Lezlee), Jana (Kingsley) Allan, and loved spending time with their 21 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Ray was a loving man who was always looking outside himself to serve others as he tried to follow the example of His Savior, Jesus Christ.

The family expresses special thanks to his two daughters, Linda and Jana, and their families for many years of dedication and love, and to all of those who have served him.

Services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Bountiful South Stake Center located at 1250 So. Main St., Bountiful, UT. Viewing Friday evening 6:00-8:00 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and 9:30-10:30 am at the church prior to the service.
